Equipment Solutions Supervisor – Cranes
Mortenson is hiring an Equipment Solutions Supervisor – Cranes. This role reports to the Crane Manager and is responsible for day‑to‑day fleet reliability and support across Mortenson's owned and re‑rented crane programs. It serves as the primary point of contact for in‑field maintenance issues, inspections, incidents, and issue closure, while coordinating vendor/OEM relationships and helping plan fleet deployment to maximize utilization and reduce downtime.

Responsibilities
Serve as primary point of contact for in‑field maintenance needs, equipment issues, and incidents/accidents.
Coordinate with vendors to dispatch service, expedite repairs, and secure parts or replacement equipment when required.
Review third‑party inspection reports (on‑rent and off‑rent), ensure findings are addressed, and drive issues to documented closure.
Track downed equipment, document issues, monitor repair status, and communicate path to resolution with project and crane stakeholders.
Support incident response documentation and follow‑through, partnering with internal stakeholders and vendors to complete required actions.
Manage project closeout and damage/claim resolution with crane vendors (documentation, review, negotiation support, and closure).
Develop and maintain strong third‑party maintenance relationships to improve responsiveness, quality, and cost outcomes.
Manage relationships with OEMs and dealer networks to support warranty, technical guidance, service campaigns, and parts availability.
Support performance reviews with key vendors and OEM partners; identify recurring issues and improvement opportunities.
Plan and allocate owned fleet deployment in partnership with the Crane Manager and project teams (scheduling, transportation planning, and utilization).
Coordinate mobilization/demobilization and fleet moves; resolve open maintenance and repair needs prior to redeployment to protect schedule and safety.
Help coordinate crane assembly and disassembly (A/D) support between project teams and vendors, aligning scope, schedule, and closeout requirements.
Maintain location and status visibility for fleet assets and support proactive planning for upcoming project starts and transitions.
Manage crane support equipment inventory and readiness.
Coordinate inspection, maintenance, repair, and replacement of support equipment; ensure accurate tracking and availability for deployment.
Partner with internal shop/logistics teams and vendors to ensure support equipment moves with cranes and is returned and closed out properly.
Maintain accurate records in fleet/rental systems for maintenance events, inspections, status changes, and closeout documentation.
Identify trends in failures, downtime, and recurring issues; recommend corrective actions and operator/vendor feedback loops.
Support standard work and process improvements that increase reliability, reduce cycle time to repair, and improve vendor performance.
Lead and influence without direct authority by guiding project teams in the field on maintenance, logistics, and issue‑resolution best practices.
Serve as a subject matter expert and knowledge resource to the crane team on fleet logistics, maintenance coordination, and vendor/OEM support.
Partner with project teams to reinforce safe operations and support Mortenson’s Zero Injury safety culture.
Build effective working relationships across diverse backgrounds and organizational levels; communicate clearly and professionally.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of experience in construction, equipment rental/fleet, maintenance coordination, and/or project management OR 8+ years of equivalent professional trade experience.
Working knowledge of maintenance/service schedules and the ability to interpret inspection findings and coordinate corrective actions.
Experience coordinating vendors for service dispatch, repairs, parts procurement, and issue closure.
Strong communication skills (verbal and written); ability to prioritize and manage multiple issues across concurrent projects.
Strong organizational and customer service skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel emphasis) and comfort working in fleet/rental software systems.
Ability to travel up to 25‑50%.
Preferred
Experience supporting crane maintenance, inspections/certifications, and fleet deployment for owned and/or re‑rented crane programs.
Experience managing vendor claims, damage documentation, and project closeout resolution with equipment suppliers.
Demonstrated ability to build and manage OEM/dealer relationships to improve responsiveness, warranty outcomes, and availability of parts.
Experience with demand, utilization, and/or financial forecasting and analysis (including downtime and cost‑driver reporting).
Prior people leadership, coaching, or lead responsibility in a field‑support or fleet environment.
Compensation & Benefits The base pay range for this role is $81,800 - $110,400. Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
