On-Call Radio Dispatcher

Job Overview On‑Call Radio Dispatcher for the University Police Department at Monmouth University Main Campus in West Long Branch, NJ. This is a part‑time, on‑site position paid $22.92 per hour.

Responsibilities

Receive and triage incoming telephone or alarm system calls regarding emergency and non‑emergency police, fire, ambulance, information, and after‑hours service.

Determine response requirements, set priorities, and dispatch units according to established procedures.

Relay information and messages to emergency sites, law‑enforcement agencies, and other notification recipients.

Record details of calls, dispatches, and messages in the computer system.

Question callers to determine location, nature of problem, and type of response needed.

Enter, update, and retrieve data from teletype networks and computerized databases (e.g., wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration).

Maintain access to and security of highly sensitive materials and files of emergency call information.

Operate base radio for two‑way communications with Police and Facilities Management; monitor transmissions from Monmouth County Radio and adjacent departments.

Issue parking decals and other permits; record vehicle registration information in the database.

Perform look‑ups from county and state computer systems; monitor computer‑based 911, fire, and security alarm systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Proficiency with a variety of computer software programs.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.

Ability to complete dispatch desk reports and related reports.

Reliability, capacity to monitor several radios and telephones concurrently, remain calm under pressure, and communicate effectively with students, employees, and the general public.

Willingness to work on university holidays and overtime when required.

Preferred Qualifications

Radio dispatch experience.

Knowledge of MS Office.

Work Schedule As needed. Covered shifts include a 15‑minute daily report. Total weeks per year: 52. Hours per week: approximately 24.

Compensation Hourly wage of $22.92.
