Job Description The Communications Assistant position is open to all UF students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week. Working closely with University of Florida College of Medicine communications team, this position will produce internal and external content to maintain and strengthen the college’s reputation. Projects the communications assistant may contribute to include the biweekly college e-newsletter, pitching stories to media for coverage, producing content for the college’s four social media channels, and writing news briefs and feature stories for Dr. Gator News, the college’s news website, and Florida Physician, the College of Medicine’s print alumni magazine.
This position has a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week and maximum of up to 20 hours per week and is primarily located off campus at UF Health Professional Park, 3300 SW Williston Road. The Communications Assistant will need to have reliable transportation to and from the office.
Key Responsibilities
Writing feature stories and news briefs, including profiles and Q&As for college and alumni communications (print and digital)
Creating content and assisting in maintaining the editorial calendar for UF College of Medicine social media channels (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn)
Assisting in building out e-newsletters and loading stories to the web using WordPress
Helping to build and execute communications plans
Photographing and producing video content for events
Supporting front-end web management and digital accessibility
Expected Salary $16.73 per hour
Required Qualifications
Must be a current University of Florida student
Have and maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average
Preferred Qualifications
Successful completion of reporting course
Proficiency in AP Style
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); demonstrated proficiency and excellence in writing and editing
Familiarity with conducting interviews for news and feature stories
At least 10 hours of in-person availability per week
Experience producing content for and managing social media channels
Interest in or experience writing about scientific topics for general audiences
At least 15 hours of in-person availability per week
Availability to remain on staff for at least two semesters
