
Lineworker I-Sr

The ability to perform all aspects of the Lineworker job function including but not limited to maintaining and building overhead and underground electrical facilities. The ability to perform work in enclosed spaces such as manholes and vaults. Responsibilities include learning, performing, and/or leading lineworkers for material maintenance and aerial/underground work, including utility distribution construction tasks. Work with a Live Safe mindset in all tasks, ensuring hazards are mitigated where identified.
Job Duties & Responsibilities Lineworker Helper
Learning and understanding human performance and safety tools and their usage in day‑to‑day work.
Operating various vehicles and equipment, including Aerial Buckets, Bread Vans, and Digger Derrick Trucks.
Reading and understanding job prints and sketches with reference to distribution standards.
Lineworker I
Proper use and care of all rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Performing confined space and bucket rescue tasks and properly setting up and operating aerial baskets and digger derrick trucks.
Lifting, rigging, and tying knots to set up, jobsite and material for work in manholes and vaults, and identifying materials and understanding distribution construction specifications.
Properly covering secondary lines and performing energized work on secondary voltage lines.
Using meters to perform tests and install 3‑ and 4‑wire secondary lines.
Identifying substation and underground equipment.
Lineworker II
Performing underground tasks, including energized primary cover‑up to 34,500 volts.
Understanding transformer theory including bank installations and tap settings, and identifying and constructing multiple secondary voltage applications.
Learning and performing simple primary voltage switching (up to 34,500 volts).
Repairing energized underground secondary cable (120/208 V) circuits.
Learning and identifying Network Grids.
Splicing primary underground cable.
Lineworker III
Performing all tasks included in Helper through Lineworker II.
Building and maintaining underground residential and network grid distribution circuits, including preparing/operating pad‑mount switchgear, installing and troubleshooting URD circuits, and switching/tagging URD primary cable.
Learning three‑phase primary tasks including safe operation and removal/installation of automatic transfer switches and manual switching schemes.
Switching three‑phase distribution circuits in vaults and substations.
Troubleshooting, repairing, and phasing network protectors (120/208 V).
Lineworker Senior
Performing all tasks included in Helper through Lineworker III.
Demonstrating strong leadership capabilities and indirect crew leadership.
Performing advanced primary voltage switching (up to 34,500 volts).
Constructing vaults, locating and correcting backfeed situations, troubleshooting and repairing energized 277/480 V network protectors and automatic transfer switches.
Installing communication equipment (Secondary Monitoring) in vaults.
Complex troubleshooting of underground circuits using VLF, capacitor discharge, TDR, and Arc Reflexional methods.
Knowledge of network protector relay schemes and Secondary Mesh Network Systems.
All levels must be able to perform the following:
Maintain a well‑organized jobsite to ensure surroundings are safe.
Complete all mandated training, such as First Aid, CPR, etc.
Minimum Education High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Experience
Lineworker Mech, Helper – 0–1 year.
Lineworker Mech, I – 6 months to 1 year.
Lineworker Mech, II – 1.5 to 2 years.
Lineworker Mech, III – 2.5 to 3 years.
Lineworker Mech, Sr – 3.5 to 4 years.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Fitness for duty testing and physical strength to perform required tasks in all weather conditions.
Ability to work irregular hours and out‑of‑town assignments.
Good communication skills and ability to follow directives.
Commitment to safety and compliance with Entergy safety policies and procedures.
Ability to learn through classroom instruction, OJT, and repetitive motions.
Hazard recognition and mitigation.
Equipment maintenance and asset safeguarding.
