This role seeks an experienced Mechanical Designer with 5–10 years of P&AID development experience to create, update, and maintain Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&AIDs) for industrial processes. You will support the safe and efficient operation of complex systems by working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure all designs meet technical, safety, and regulatory requirements. Your expertise will directly contribute to the success of engineering projects in industrial and manufacturing environments.
Responsibilities
Create, update, and maintain Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&AIDs) using industry‑standard tools such as AutoCAD P&AID.
Collaborate with mechanical, process, and project engineers to understand design requirements and translate them into accurate P&AIDs.
Produce clear, detailed P&AID documentation, including piping layouts, equipment, instrumentation, and control loops.
Ensure all P&AIDs comply with relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and project‑specific requirements.
Support the selection of components, including piping materials, valves, and instrumentation, based on process and design needs.
Manage revisions and change tracking for P&AIDs and communicate updates effectively to stakeholders.
Review and validate P&AIDs for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and overall quality.
Develop as‑built P&AIDs following construction activities or system modifications to reflect actual field conditions.
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior designers and drafters involved in P&AID work.
Maintain thorough engineering documentation to support design decisions and project deliverables.
Essential Skills
5–10 years of mechanical design experience with a strong focus on P&AID development for industrial processes.
Proficiency with P&AID software, including AutoCAD P&AID or similar tools.
Strong understanding of industrial processes, equipment, and instrumentation used in piping and control systems.
Knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards related to P&AID development and piping design.
Demonstrated experience in mechanical design, piping design, and instrumentation integration.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills applied to complex industrial systems.
Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
High attention to detail and a strong commitment to producing accurate, high‑quality P&AID documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical design, or a related field.
Experience working with fluid mechanics principles in the context of piping and instrumentation design.
Familiarity with engineering documentation practices and revision control processes.
Ability to interpret and apply industry standards and project specifications to P&AID development.
Capability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and drafters.
Proactive, quality‑focused mindset with a dedication to safe and efficient system operation.
Work Environment This position is based onsite at a power plant facility in Atlanta, GA. You will work in an industrial plant environment, collaborating closely with engineering and operations personnel while supporting active systems and projects. The role involves working with AutoCAD P&AID and other engineering documentation tools in an office setting within the plant, with periodic interaction with field or construction areas to support as‑built updates and design verification. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to plant procedures, and careful attention to detail in all design and documentation activities.
Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Atlanta, GA.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
