Senior Manager, Internal Communications Content & Employee Engagement Location: New York or Washington, D.C. Term: Limited‑term, two‑year position.

Position Summary SRICME plays a critical role in supporting the execution of NRDC’s internal communications and employee engagement strategy. The role strengthens internal understanding of NRDC’s mission, vision, strategic direction, culture, and values, and drives change management efforts across the organization. It involves managing multichannel communications, implementing best practices, and ensuring consistent messaging from leadership to staff.

Responsibilities

Support the execution and implementation of the internal communications strategy across the organization, including planning, project‑management, and execution of unified messages to staff.

Institute standard internal communications best practices.

Build the intranet: develop an RFP, vet and interview consultants, and project‑manage the process from development through launch, implementation, and ongoing maintenance.

Maintain the internal communication content calendar to sequence and stagger communications strategically and oversee the cross‑organization calendar of activities.

Manage the flow of internal communication content across all aspects of NRDC’s work, linking strategy and vision to people and culture.

Develop and maintain a multichannel internal communications strategy that includes email, intranet, Microsoft Teams, and in‑office touchpoints.

Support the Executive Office and Executive Leadership Team’s internal communications priorities, writing and editing materials and planning for leadership messages across all channels.

Establish and track metrics that correlate internal communications programs to organizational performance.

Project manage institutional town halls, including:

Identifying the annual calendar of town hall gatherings, with at least one international town hall.

Developing agendas in consultation with senior leadership.

Managing pre‑, day‑of, and post‑town hall supports.

Developing talking points and slides.

Qualifications

4–7 years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or related fields.

Proven global or cross‑cultural experience.

Strong project‑management skills.

Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex, nuanced messages for diverse internal audiences.

Excellent presentation and communication skills, capable of crafting clear messages that provide employees with a clear line of sight to business strategy.

Proactive self‑starter with proven ability to plan, juggle, prioritize, and execute on a complex internal calendar.

Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and deliver strong written products on short deadlines.

Ability to work independently, use strategic judgment, set and manage priorities, and meet competing deadlines.

Extremely strong attention to detail, including proofreading and copy‑editing.

Strong organizational skills.

Problem‑solving ability that identifies the source and impact of problems and recommends solutions.

Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface with all levels of the organization.

Sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Comfortable with accepting feedback and adapting to deliver the desired product.

Physical Demands and Work Environment Physical demands representative of those required by the employee include frequent desk‑based computer tasks; frequent interaction and communication with employees and others; frequent attendance of planned meetings; occasional attendance of events and activities in the office or offsite; sometimes work performed primarily in office. The work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate elsewhere. Hours may require flexibility, including nights and weekends, when needed.

Benefits Salary range: $100,000 to $115,000 (non‑profit scale, commensurate with skills and experience). Eligibility for hybrid work model: employees are required to attend the office 8 days per month. Competitive salaries and benefits package.
