COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER, WBUR

Boston University, Boston, MA, United States

COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER, WBUR Job Description The Marketing & Communications team elevates WBUR's brand reputation and strategically drives audience growth. By ensuring brand consistency and implementing industry best practices, we lead the creative development of new product launches and execute integrated, multi-platform campaigns. Our work strengthens WBUR's position as a trusted institution, serving Greater Boston and a national audience with excellence and impact. The Marketing and Communications team collaborates with WBUR colleagues across news, podcasts, business, membership and other strategic operations. As Communications Manager, you will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications and work closely with our Creative Project Manager, Marketing Operations Manager, and Graphic Designer. In this role you will turn strategy into clear, compelling storytelling across owned, earned, and paid channels, writing with pep and personality to help audiences understand not just what we do, but why it matters. Your work—from brand ads and product launches to PR and social—will keep the WBUR voice cohesive and unmistakable. You will produce strong writing and bold concepts, managing projects from brief to delivery, combining craft with initiative. We are looking for a thinker and a doer: a creative self‑starter who finishes work, collaborates well, and brings fresh ideas with excellent judgment.

Required Skills

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, advertising, PR, journalism or a related field; 5‑8+ years' experience in media, marketing, agency advertising, PR or similar roles.

Agency experience and portfolio of campaign work strongly encouraged.

Creative thinker with strong conceptual and storytelling skills; portfolio showcasing a range of creative writing projects and campaigns.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Enthusiasm for handling tasks of any scale, a self‑starter from big‑picture ideas to detailed executions.

Familiarity with social media and CRM tools, such as Sprinklr and Salesforce, a plus.

We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, natural or protective hairstyle, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, military service, pregnancy or pregnancy‑related condition, or because of marital, parental, or veteran status.
