Job Summary The overall purpose of this position is to develop and maintain various forms of content in support of the goals and communication objectives of IEEE‑HKN. The incumbent is responsible for understanding communication requirements, following established standards and best practices, proactively researching content topics, creating content for a variety of staff, volunteer, member and public audiences, collaborating with subject matter experts, and supporting communication plans for highly visible IEEE‑HKN operations that align with IEEE's strategic goals.
Projects include, but are not limited to, content for slide decks, multimedia presentations, web pages, video content, podcasts, webinars, technical documents, reports and planning documents. The contributions of this individual will improve the effectiveness of communications and marketing of IEEE‑HKN and assist the IEEE‑HKN Board, Committees, and staff to achieve their target objectives.
The role reports to the Director, works with the IEEE‑HKN team and functions as both an individual contributor and part of staff and volunteer teams. The role does not manage any direct reports.
Communications & Marketing (60%)
Review, organize and disseminate IEEE‑HKN content to all communication channels
Support the IEEE‑HKN team to gather and assemble data to inform communications
Ensure content and deliverables meet staff, volunteer, user, technical and creative expectations
Develop and produce newsletters for a variety of audiences
Review and update existing content such as web pages, electronic presentations and other electronic communications
Edit and create video content for social media, website, podcasts and webinar series, and for promotional purposes
Storytell the value and engagement opportunities of IEEE‑HKN
Proactively work with staff and volunteer teams to raise awareness and socialize content to targeted audiences
Use proven best practices, methods and standards
Collaborate with staff on the content of the IEEE‑HKN website
Serve as staff contact and support for content and communications issues
Support Events and Initiatives (15%)
Collaborate with IEEE‑HKN team to support communications necessary for successful events
Collaborate with volunteers and staff to document results of each event and overall awareness
Support IEEE‑HKN PR & Communications Committee and IEEE‑HKN Events and related committees
Attend events as assigned by management
Administrative Tasks (25%)
Cross‑train in IEEE‑HKN business and administrative processes
Prepare timelines, documents and manuals to promote collaboration and organization
Collaborate with the EA Student & Academic Team, EA marketing, IEEE, including Marketing, Corporate Activities, the IEEE Foundation, Technical Activities and Legal & Compliance, and others as needed
Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills & Requirements
Excellent verbal, written, organizational skills with strict attention to detail
Ability to compose communications for audiences who read/write English as a first or second language
Ability to write and tailor content for various audiences
Fluent in business English and able to speak effectively on the telephone and in person
Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Professional; high proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint
Working knowledge of HTML and CSS preferred; WordPress experience a plus
Sound editing and podcast experience a plus
Experience with basic graphics and photo manipulation, preferably using Adobe Photoshop and video editing software; Canva experience a plus
Technologically savvy with a positive and proactive attitude
Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously with changing priorities, meeting deadlines and resolving issues
Excels at working independently and with a diverse team in a fast-moving environment
Able to work with minimal supervision, interfacing with multiple stakeholders and demonstrating flexibility and creativity
Up to 30 hrs a week
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Communications or a related discipline (required)
Work Experience:
Prior association experience (preferred)
Experience working with volunteer Boards and Committees (preferred)
Salary Range: $30–$35 per hour
Other Requirements:
Individuals currently serving on an IEEE board or committee are not eligible to apply
