About the position The Energy team is part of ING Global Sector Coverage which covers the energy value chain including oil & gas transport & storage, traditional and renewable power generation, and new energy technologies (CCUS, batteries and hydrogen). As an Associate for the Energy team you will be responsible for:
Responsibilities
New Deal Origination/Execution Support: Support MDs, Directors and VPs in the Hydrocarbons & New Energies (“HNE”) Team in the origination and structuring of project and corporate financing solutions in the North American mid and downstream sectors, and also in the emerging New Energies sectors. Responsibilities include but are not limited to onboarding of clients/borrowers, KYC, industry & market analysis, preparing pitches and presentations for new financing opportunities, capital structuring or M&A transactions, greenlight memos, credit and written summaries for new lending transactions, using own or third‑party financial models to prepare or review financial projections and sensitivity analysis, reviewing due diligence materials, participation in the credit application process, and assisting in the maintenance of industry and market intelligence databases.
Requisite Skill Set
Strong academic track record with Undergraduate or Masters from top school
Solid math skills essential; solid statistical skills useful
Strong written and oral communication skills
Must be highly detail-oriented and accurate
Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint): Must have outstanding Excel skills and be able to build own/use third‑party financial debt models very soon after starting.
Fundamental understanding of GAAP accounting principles and comfort with core financial statements (Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement and Balance Sheet).
Fundamental understanding of key financial markets and products.
Basic understanding of corporate and bankruptcy law.
Team Player, self‑motivated high quality/high quantity producer
Other
Writing sample – preferably a credit analysis
Taking a basic debt modelling test

Qualifications and Competencies
Education: bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Math
4-5 years of relevant project/corporate finance experience ideally in Midstream & Downstream oil & gas or general Energy transactions
Experience with pitching materials and PowerPoint
Microsoft Excel
Series 79/63 or commitment to obtaining within 6 months of joining.
Salary: $150,000 - $175,000
