IBEW Union Bid - Custodial Lead, Residence Life, Housing & Dining Services
This position is available to current regular full‑time Missouri State University employees represented by the IBEW.
Work Hours:
1st shift 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday.
Responsibilities The Custodial Lead provides leadership to a small team of custodians and performs semi‑skilled custodial services for university facilities. Responsibilities include:
Lead custodial staff in routine and specialized cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, restocking, trash removal, restroom cleaning, etc.) using manual and powered equipment such as buffers, vacuums, scrubbers, and extractors.
Direct activities, conduct inspections, address performance issues, provide training, and develop performance appraisals.
Ensure continuity of services during absences or emergencies by covering required areas.
Coordinate work orders, scheduling changes, and special event needs through the university computer systems.
Maintain storage areas, monitor supply usage, and notify supervisor when restocking is needed.
Oversee special assignments, track supplies, and protect university assets.
Promote and enforce safety and health regulations, including PPE use, and report injuries or unsafe conditions.
Drive throughout the campus to support operations.
Act as Custodial Supervisor when the supervisor is not available.
Perform other essential duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; significant custodial experience may substitute for the diploma.
Experience:
Minimum two years in custodial services and one year of supervisory experience preferred.
Skills:
Ability to read English instructions, problem‑solving, planning, adaptability, customer service, interpersonal and communication skills, instruction of other staff, computer literacy.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lb regularly and up to 100 lb occasionally with appropriate equipment; ability to operate cleaning equipment, use ladders, bend, reach, walk, and stand for extended periods; valid Missouri driver’s license required; subject to after‑hours emergencies and mandatory overtime.
