The nation's largest nonprofit environmental law organization is hiring a Public Affairs Campaigns Strategist to design, manage, and execute long-term advocacy communications campaigns. The organization uses litigation, lobbying, and public communications to protect public health, preserve wildlife and natural places, advance clean energy, and combat climate change, with offices in more than a dozen U.S. cities. This role sits within the Communications department and works closely with the Director of Public Affairs Campaigns, VP of Public Affairs and Communications, and staff across litigation, lobbying, and communications. The strategist will run day-to-day campaign implementation, develop key narratives and messaging around policy issues, conduct research, identify and engage stakeholders and decision-makers, organize coalition partners, and coordinate cross-team efforts spanning advocacy, storytelling, media outreach, and government relations. The work is split across strategy and coordination, media and coalition-building, content creation, and administrative management. A strong fit for someone with several years of nonprofit or advocacy communications experience who can move between long-term campaign planning and rapid-response moments, and who is comfortable working across internal teams and external coalitions. What the Role Covers

Partnering with program and communications staff to design, plan, and execute long-term advocacy communications campaigns, including stakeholder engagement, policy goals, and integration of litigation strategy (30%) Using data-informed approaches (polling, market research, focus groups) to set measurable advocacy goals, key messaging, target audiences, and communications strategies Coordinating with partners, clients, and coalitions on joint advocacy campaigns, issue education, engagement, mobilization, and paid, owned, and earned media Creating and implementing earned media, social, and digital strategies to advance campaign goals (30%) Building and maintaining relationships with reporters covering key issues, and coordinating press events and earned media opportunities Engaging partners and stakeholders to influence decision-makers and popularize policy goals with the public Identifying partnerships with local and national organizations and community groups to amplify key issues Building the organization's external presence on key issues and developing internal message guidance (25%) Driving storytelling and advocacy projects in partnership with content production, marketing, and fundraising teams Drafting, reviewing, editing, and approving content across digital and print channels for tonal and message consistency Managing contracts, invoices, vendor relationships, budgets, strategy documents, timelines, and project management tools (15%) Qualifications

5+ years of experience in nonprofit or advocacy communications, including setting strategy, managing advocacy campaigns, producing content, and conducting media outreach Direct experience implementing advocacy campaigns at the state or federal level Proven track record placing media stories, opinion pieces, and narratives that influence policy conversations Outstanding project management and organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple outreach projects under tight deadlines Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across diverse internal and external teams and coalitions Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into compelling, accessible content Bachelor's or master's degree in journalism, political science, communications, environmental studies, public policy, or a related field (desired but not required) Digital advocacy experience is a plus Salary by Location
