Chicago Public Media (CPM) is a nonprofit newsroom dedicated to independent journalism and serving the Chicago community.

Job Title : Graphic Design & Marketing Intern

Duration : 6-month program, 24 hours per week.

Compensation : $20 per hour. Location: Navy Pier, Chicago, Illinois. All interns must be able to work from the office onsite.

Responsibilities Work with CPM’s Marketing team and the Creative Manager to design and execute branding and marketing campaigns for radio shows, podcasts, events, and other initiatives. Responsibilities include:

Developing creative concepts from idea to execution across print, digital, social media, video, and physical assets.

Creating templates, layouts, and media assets for social media, print, and digital channels.

Assisting in A/B testing of design decisions and evaluating campaign effectiveness.

Collaborating with cross‑functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Required Qualifications

Diligent, detail‑oriented, and able to follow direction well.

Passionate about news, public media, publishing, or journalism.

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro).

Experience with Figma, creating animated GIFs, and using Google Workspace.

Familiarity with Canva or other design platforms such as Procreate.

Organized, creative, and self‑motivated.

A design portfolio or work samples is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with typography, graphic design, and layout (school work counts).

Experience with A/B testing in design decisions.

Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram).

Branding experience.

Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

Social media strategy knowledge.

Education

College seniors or recent graduates in graphic design, visual communications, radio/film/television.

Knowledge of Chicago Public Media and its mission.

Strong interest in learning and contributing to the organization’s mission.

Curiosity and willingness to learn.

Understanding of the value of diverse perspectives.

Career relevance to journalism and media.

Specific skills to acquire during the internship.
