Brief Description
Responsible for writing and editing original content, including features and columns, and supporting the editorial team by managing the flow of materials within the department. This role travels to cover industry events as needed, ensures adherence to SME Media’s style guidelines, and assists in the production of content for print and digital platforms.
Major Functions
Research, write and post feature articles and columns as assigned
Supports the editorial team by copy editing and managing the flow of materials among editorial, graphics, and marketing teams.
Assists Senior Editors in maintaining the website by publishing content, collaborating with authors, and supporting the site’s overall design and functionality
Collaborates with Senior Editors to maintain the editorial calendar and ensure timely delivery of content
Places copy from contributing editors in InCopy. Style InCopy document
Writes Table of Contents/Connect & Engage section for Manufacturing Engineering Magazine
Supports SME Media’s social media strategy by posting and optimizing content to enhance audience engagement.
Compiles Product Previews for print and digital publications and platforms.
Proofs print‑ready pages and collaborates with graphics to implement revisions.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, English or related.
At least one (1) year related work experience.
Some related experience in editorial/publishing.
Proficiency in standard word processing programs.
Experience with content management systems and posting digital content preferred
Familiarity with social media platforms and posting tools preferred
Direct experience using Adobe InCopy preferred.
Excellent copy‑editing skills, written and verbal communications skills, organization, time management skills.
Detail oriented.
Team player.
Able to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑task environment.

Primary office location: Southfield, MI
Travel required, which may include domestic and occasional international trips for conferences, meetings, tradeshows, and events.
May occasionally visit manufacturing facilities for research, events, or interviews, requiring adherence to safety protocols and appropriate attire.
During travel, the role may require traversing large event spaces, standing for extended periods, or carrying materials such as promotional items or media kits (up to 25 pounds).

Benefits
The salary range for this position is $61,000 - $75,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications. Offers typically fall within this range based on individual qualifications and budget availability. In addition to base salary, SME offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 403(b) with company matching, generous paid time off and holidays, professional development and training opportunities, and additional wellness and work‑life balance benefits. Certain positions may also be eligible for bonus/incentive compensation, subject to role and company policies.
