Primary Focus: Guides authors through the content plan, performing editing to ensure quality and alignment with pedagogical and market goals. This role connects author creativity with educational value and supports delivery timelines and collaboration.
Content Type: All components, encompassing chapter, module, or lesson text; images; videos and animations; interactive learning tools; assessments; and supplemental resources.
Key Strengths: Author management, editorial judgment, domain expertise, content shaping, proficiency with AI tools, accessibility, and proactive problem solving for build-ready content.
Responsibilities
Participate in product planning and represent content development needs; partner with CPMs to source and onboard royalty authors.
Manage author communications, schedules, and deliverables; guide authors in creating effective, pedagogically sound content.
Analyze author submissions to refine onboarding and editorial support; resolve author issues and elevate as needed.
Ensure content aligns with strategy and learning design; coordinate reviews, feedback loops, and apply market feedback for continuous improvement.
Evaluate and edit author submissions, maintain workflow adherence, track progress, and communicate risks to stakeholders.
Adhere to quality standards, consult with accessibility teams, and leverage templates, authoring tools, and AI workflows for efficiency.
Tools Used: Product plan documents, editorial templates, authoring guidelines, style guides, Smartsheet schedules, budgets, and collaborative tools (including AI workflows). Authoring tools include Word, PDF, and assessment templates. The goal is a fully integrated, platform-enabled authoring system with embedded AI.
Workflow Role: Pre‑development through build, ranging from securing and shaping authored content to partnering as needed with producers to resolve issues in build.
Pedagogical Involvement: Ranges from moderate to heavy (substantive developmental and line editing) to support learning goals through all elements of the content plan.
Key Collaborators: Content Strategy & Delivery Manager, Authors, CPMs, APMs, Learning Designers, other Editorial Developers, Developmental Editors, Content Developers, Project Management, Producers, Vendor Partners.
Success Measures: Clear, cohesive, pedagogically sound, and buildable courseware content aligned to product plan goals, author experience & satisfaction, adherence to scope, timeliness and budget, and stakeholder collaboration feedback.
