Role Description The Creative Director will oversee the development and execution of creative strategies, ensuring the visual and conceptual integrity of the magazine and related media. This full-time, on-site role is located in Uptown New Orleans. Daily responsibilities include providing art direction, managing graphic design projects, developing branding and design solutions, and collaborating with editorial and marketing teams to ensure alignment with the brand's vision and goals. The Creative Director will serve as the head graphic designer. This person will be in charge of the design and layout of the print publication and collaborate with the content posted to the website. It also includes the graphic design of print and online advertisements as needed. In addition, the Creative Director will work with the Publisher, Executive Editor, photographers, and artists to create the cover for each issue. The position calls for someone to collaborate with the Executive Editor for the print publication and website. As Creative Director, this person would coordinate with the Executive Editor to work with existing writers to cull and develop story ideas. The Executive Editor would collect all editorial submissions from the writers and coordinate with the Creative Director and Copy Editor to prepare the layout for publishing. The Creative Director will be asked to manage a pair of graphic design interns who assist in the day-to-day work of the publication. These graphic design interns assist in such things as creating e-blasts via MailChimp, website layout, obtaining images, taking photos, and the like. The Creative Director would work with a video intern in creating content for Where Y'at's social media channels and website. The candidate must be well-organized and able to work towards future projects while prioritizing the task at-hand. The Creative Director will be required to work in-office Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, though be available to work additional hours as needed to prepare the publication for print. The Creative Director must be able to carry out many functions while able to work under pressure when unforeseen situations arise. Qualifications Proficiency in Creative Direction and Creative Strategy to lead and inspire effectively. Strong skills in Branding and Art Direction to maintain and evolve the magazine's visual identity. Expertise in Graphic Design, including Adobe Creative Suite, and the ability to create visual content that aligns with strategic goals. Proven leadership and team management experience in a creative environment. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. A passion for arts, entertainment, and New Orleans culture. Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or a related field is an asset.
