As an underwriter at Principal Financial Group, you will be at the forefront of evaluating risks and underwriting standard group insurance cases. This outstanding opportunity allows you to apply your expertise in rating and risk analysis of prospects, new cases, amendments, and renewals. You will gather and review appropriate information to ensure that all data is reasonable, complete, and accurate. Additionally, you will analyze data, make corrections, and perform necessary calculations. egotiate rates on cases by analyzing industry, demographics, claim history, and plan build. Obtain and assess necessary information for support functions to verify that all data is logical, comprehensive, and exact. Inspect data, adjust errors, and conduct calculations. Manage and disseminate information when needed. Serve as a technical expert for specialized processes by responding to inquiries, suggesting solutions, and supporting other team members. Research and answer standard risk-related questions, providing information and recommendations to internal and external customers. Participate in special projects concerning operational issues, systems, and processes. Assist with training on process changes. Perform other job-related duties or special projects as required. Bachelor's degree or equivalent required, plus 0 - 2 years underwriting or insurance experience preferred, as well as basic knowledge of business unit products. Must have strong planning/organizational, problem-solving, analytical, time management, decision-making, and oral and written communication skills, as well as general math skills. Computer skills and knowledge of business unit applications preferred. Must be able to maintain accuracy while being detail oriented. Ability to maintain confidentiality is required. Travel may be required (5%), including overnight stays. Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Personal Time Off (PTO) is provided to hourly (non-exempt) employees and provides a set amount of accrued time earned each pay period. Employees can use their PTO for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Pension eligible. This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements. You'll work with your leader to determine which option aligns best with your needs and the company's goals.
