
CRIMINAL INTELLIGENCE ANALYST I

Position Overview
The Illinois State Police (ISP) is seeking to fill the role of Criminal Intelligence Analyst I. This position will be working under direct supervision, performing developmental-level intelligence casework in the Offender Registration Unit. The position reviews and assesses complex offender‑related intelligence, gathers and organizes sensitive information from ISP reports and other law enforcement sources, and compiles profiles to support investigative and patrol operations. The analyst assists with producing rapid-response intelligence products, including alerts, bulletins, and threat assessments, and performs related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Under direct supervision, performs selected criminal intelligence casework at a developmental level in the Offender Registration Unit.
Completes assessments of complex criminal intelligence casework regarding offenders.
Accesses and organizes sensitive information from ISP criminal investigations and patrol field reports, other law enforcement agencies and intelligence sources, compiles subject profiles for ISP patrol and investigative officers to develop leads and identify trends or patterns of criminal groups and individuals required to register.
Assists with the development of rapid response research, assimilation, and dissemination of criminal intelligence analytical alerts, bulletins, threat assessments, etc.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college with preferred coursework in philosophy, behavioral sciences, and law enforcement or a related field.
Requires one year of professional criminal investigative experience or completion of an agency approved training course.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefers working knowledge of computers as utilized in criminal investigation analysis.
Prefers elementary knowledge of state, federal, and local criminal laws and regulations as they relate to the criminal investigative process.
Prefers the ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with coworkers, law enforcement personnel, and legal system personnel.
Prefers the ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and logically, both orally and in writing.
Prefers the ability to construct court exhibits, criminal intelligence charts, and testify in court as an expert witness with proper courtroom demeanor.
Prefers extensive knowledge of criminal intelligence analytical methods and procedures.
Prefers elementary knowledge of the rules of evidence in criminal law.
Prefers working knowledge of collecting and maintaining criminal intelligence files.
Prefers ability to apply criminal intelligence analytical principles and techniques in an accurate and professional manner for efficient disposition of casework.
Prefers ability to perform literature research and other professional research.
Conditions of Employment
Requires ability to pass a background, fingerprint check, and drug screening.
Must be able to become full LEADS certified within three (3) months of employment.
Requires ability to travel in performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
