Bilingual Customer Service Representative- English/Spanish (part-time)

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; college courses in accounting, business or a related field preferred; and at least one year of customer service experience in a call center environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Fluency in English and Spanish (write, read, and speak) is required. Candidates must be able to multitask and work under stressful, demanding situations, have good oral and written bilingual communication skills, and possess fast and accurate typing skills. Proficiency in problem‑solving and resolution skills with the public is required, as is competency in Word, Excel, and Outlook. Successful candidates will demonstrate English and Spanish proficiency by passing an independent, third‑party test paid for by the county. Responsibilities

Serves as the first point of contact for all customers visiting the Utilities Department in person. Provides customer assistance to a diverse population where English and Spanish are the primary languages, including: Providing information, researching basic problems, performing routine collections or arranging payments on customer accounts, answering inquiries and resolving complaints. Receiving and processing payments, and explaining policies and procedures to customers in both English and Spanish. Spending considerable time using bilingual skills to assist Spanish‑fluent customers in accessing the department’s services and translating information. Interpreting information for Spanish‑fluent customers in person, over the telephone, and in writing via emails or other correspondence. Translating written documents and correspondence and translating customer information for other staff. Additional duties include assisting the Utilities’ diverse customer base in person, by telephone, and via written correspondence regarding new connections, disconnections, account information, and billing questions; determining required fees; supporting online/IVR payments; investigating accounts and consumption histories; responding to inquiries regarding charges, credit histories; and performing other work as required. Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (shift varies). Work Location
