Staff Appraiser - Commercial

Join Valley National Bank as a Staff Appraiser - Commercial, responsible for reviewing and performing written appraisal reports on commercial and special-use properties to support underwriting and risk management.
Responsibilities
Maintain contact with various departments to resolve issues related to appraisal work requests.
Monitor and evaluate changes in the commercial appraisal profession and recommend updates to bank appraisal policies and procedures.
Process appraisal requests and customer billing, ensuring appropriate fee levels and adequate skill of external appraisers.
Review appraisal reports for methodology, market data, analysis and compliance with USPAP and internal standards.
Travel to properties for primary inspections and Field Construction Inspections.
Search, set up and review new appraisal firms for FF‑E and Business Valuations in newly expanded territories.
Recommend additions of Commercial and Special‑Use Property Appraisers to the Approved Appraiser List.
Perform appraisals for internal departments, including monthly quality‑control samples of closed loans.
Review quality‑control appraisals performed by outside firms and track results.
Review environmental reports for compliance with ASTM and bank standards.
Required Skills
Intermediate PC skills (email, Microsoft Word, Excel) and lease‑analysis software (e.g., Argus, Project, DynaLease).
Knowledge of USPAP, Interagency Appraisal guidelines, OCC and HVCC regulations related to commercial real‑estate appraisals.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize and organize assignments.
Ability to conduct market analysis independently.
Required Experience
High school diploma or GED and at least three years’ experience in appraising commercial and special‑use properties.
State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser License and a valid driver’s license.
Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university (preferred).
