Assistant Coach, Field Hockey

Stanford Athletics is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Coach, Field Hockey. The Assistant Coach needs to have experience working with goalkeepers and is responsible for assisting the Head Coach with defensive principles. Additionally, as well as coaching the varsity field hockey team, the Assistant Coach will assist with recruiting, training, practice, team management, budget, and travel. The Assistant Coach also has the opportunity to participate in summer camp operations, consistent with institutional and NCAA regulations. This is an on‑site, six‑month fixed‑term position.

Your Responsibilities Include

Practice design of GK training sessions, assessment, and individual growth plans for each.

Assist the Head Coach with defensive principles and defensive unit play.

Daily coding and video sessions.

Game Day coding/filming.

Daily team operational tasks with team travel, team meals, equipment, etc.

Support and facilitate a healthy team culture that supports the development of grounded self‑awareness and growth mindset, selfless teamwork, personal and team integrity, and competitive greatness.

Help plan and organize team training and practice sessions, and use video analysis to provide feedback to players, within NCAA regulations and with respect for the academic demands of Stanford student‑athletes.

Assist with identifying, assessing, and recruiting top student‑athletes to compete at Stanford, within the context of applicable NCAA regulations and University admission expectations.

Assist with the organization required with visiting teams, recruits, and other parties.

Participate in Department of Athletics education and activities, including regular coaches meetings, all‑staff meetings, and compliance and other education sessions.

Participate in and/or support alumni outreach, fundraising, and other relevant relationship management activities on behalf of the program and the department.

Perform other duties, as assigned by the Head Coach or her designee.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have

Bachelor’s degree required. Collegiate or professional coaching experience is required. Division I collegiate coaching experience preferred.

1–3 years experience coaching FIELD HOCKEY.

Strong interpersonal skills in working with student‑athletes, peers, and the general public.

Computer literacy with common office applications such as Word, Excel, G‑Suite applications, Hudl, or Sports code.

Ability to understand and comply with all rules and regulations of Stanford University, Atlantic Coast Conference, and NCAA.

Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of staff and personnel in the Department of Athletics, the University, and the community.

Coaching soccer does not make you qualified for this position.

The expected pay range for this position is $72,000 – $76,000 per annum.
