Social Media Manager
Chris McMillan, Los Angeles, CA, United States
Chris McMillan Hair is a high-performance haircare brand rooted in artistry and built to make good hair accessible for all. Founded by Chris McMillan, with over four decades behind the chair, the brand carries a level of credibility and craft that shows up in everything we create. Chris is still a working stylist, taking clients every day — and that hands‑on perspective is at the heart of who we are. Our products are designed to work just as well at home as they do in the salon. Based on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, our team is tight‑knit, passionate, and genuinely loves what we're building together. If you're looking to build something from the ground up, this is the place.
ABOUT THIS ROLE We’re looking for a Social Media Manager to lead our social channels and build a real community around the brand.
Reporting to the VP of Marketing, this role owns social end‑to‑end — setting the strategy, shaping how we show up, and bringing it to life through content that feels clear, creative, and consistent.
This is a community‑first role. You’ll be responsible for building an engaged audience, creating content people connect with, and making sure our social presence feels active, relevant, and in conversation with our customer.
At the same time, this is a creative role. You’ll help define what good looks like on our channels — translating Chris’s point of view into content that feels elevated, on‑brand, and worth paying attention to.
You’ll stay close to the platforms, understand what’s working, and continuously evolve how we show up to keep growing and improving.
You’ll partner closely with the Creative Director, VP of Marketing, and founders to ensure social is consistent with the brand and moving forward.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Own day‑to‑day management of all social channels — including Instagram and TikTok — from strategy through execution, ensuring a consistent, on‑brand presence across platforms
Build and manage the social content calendar across channels, including planning, scheduling, and maintaining an organized and consistent posting cadence
Lead the development of content across platforms — from ideation through execution — ensuring everything is aligned with the brand and performs within each platform
Write and edit copy across all social channels, maintaining a clear and consistent brand voice
Build and grow a strong community across platforms, engaging daily through comments, DMs, and conversation to create a more connected and active audience
Support real‑time and in‑person social coverage for brand moments and events — including pop‑ups, influencer events, and cultural moments
Manage social analytics and reporting across platforms (including tools like Dash Hudson), using data to inform content strategy and ongoing optimization
Partner closely with Creative, Marketing, Influencer, PR, and Retail teams to ensure alignment across campaigns, launches, and key brand moments
Collaborate with Customer Care to share insights, surface key themes from the community, and ensure a consistent brand experience across touchpoints
Lead efforts to gather and translate community feedback into actionable insights for product, content, and brand
Support broader marketing initiatives as needed, including shoots, events, and cross‑functional projects
YOU’LL THRIVE HERE IF
You have a point of view. You understand what’s happening across platforms, you know what’s trending, and you have the aesthetic sensibility to know what fits the brand and what doesn’t. You bring strong opinions to the table, rooted in both instinct and data.
You’re a creative problem solver. You don’t need a massive budget or a full production team to make something great. You’re resourceful, you think on your feet, and you find ways to make things happen with whatever’s in front of you.
You take ownership and initiative. You chart your own path — what you put into this opportunity is what you get out of it. You’re organized, you prioritize well, and you don’t wait to be told what to do next. You motivate the people around you, bring others along, and make the work better by being in the room.
You’re deeply tuned into beauty, fashion, and culture. You pay attention to what’s happening — not just in hair and beauty, but across fashion, architecture, design, and every major culture moment. You understand why things resonate, not just what’s trending, and you bring that awareness into your content every day.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
5+ years in social media marketing and content creation, with direct experience in beauty or haircare
A strong portfolio that speaks for itself — show us the content you’ve created, the channels you’ve grown, and the campaigns you’ve led
Deep platform fluency across Instagram, TikTok, and emerging channels — you understand the algorithms, the formats, and how people actually consume content
Deep understanding of social trends, the creator economy, and digital‑first brand building
Strong copywriting skills with experience developing and maintaining brand voice and tone across channels
Experience curating UGC for brand‑owned channels — you know what belongs on the feed and what doesn’t
Proficiency with social analytics tools such as Dash Hudson; comfortable using data to inform strategy
Energized by a fast‑paced, founder‑led environment where you’re building something, not maintaining it
WHY CHRIS McMILLAN
Be part of the legacy. Chris has spent over four decades building one of the most respected names in hair — and now that artistry is becoming a brand. This isn’t a trend‑driven moment. It’s the product of real work, real credibility, and a founder who’s still in it every single day.
Get in at the perfect time. We’re in a serious growth stage with strong momentum at Sephora and expanding into the pro channel. The foundation is set, the trajectory is steep, and there’s a lot of surface area to make your mark.
Join a team you’ll love working with. We’re a tight‑knit group that has fun, supports each other, and is genuinely excited about what we’re building together. Every day brings something new, and you’ll make real impact alongside people you enjoy showing up with. Beautiful office on the Sunset Strip, competitive salary, health benefits, and product perks.
Chris McMillan Hair is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all team members. The expected salary range for this role is $90,000-115,000. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors. Chris McMillan Hair will consider for employment qualified applicants who require reasonable accommodations to perform essential job functions.
