How you’ll make an impact: As a Designer, you will create innovative, trend-right collections that align with our brand vision and customer needs. In this role, you’ll bring fresh concepts to life—from initial sketches to final prototypes—while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver standout products.

40% Creative Direction

Responsible for researching new & current trends through social, web, runway and in store venues.

Recommends product ideas and key items that demonstrate a clear point of view that support the Carters brand vision.

Research and present innovative designs, fabrics, trims and concepts to fill the needs of the line plan and successfully translates to the modern heritage aesthetic

Provides recommendations regarding seasonal themes, edits to line, new concepts

Partner with Design leadership to create seasonal direction in silhouette design to ensures that product is consistent with market trends as well as the business strategy

Research and present design and creative concepts that demonstrate innovative, brand-right creative (silos, trim & details, color, print & graphic design direction to supervisor and peers)

Assemble creative and /or trend boards for internal presentations

30% Product line Development

Design and present key items to fit into seasonal concepts and collections

Responsible for managing the design process from conception through final styling & fit for assigned product category

Prepare and request design and proto samples from Product Development & Sourcing team

Design silhouettes; develop fabric and trims that are market and brand appropriate.

Assemble creative and /or trend boards for internal presentations

Ensures designs are on trend with market as well as business strategy; ensures the line plan and cost requirements are met

Ensure that design sketches and BOMs are complete and accurate

Provides insight regarding style and fit of product during presentationEnsure line sheets are maintained in illustrator for presentation and buying needs.

Sketch technical drawings in illustrator, communicate design intent, and update design cards or in systems

30% Design Process & Cross Functional Collaboration and Communication

Responsible for communicating design intention, comments, and updates to cross-functional partners

Initiate process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce complexity

Attend fit meetings and communicate detailed comments on fit and construction to the technical team

Collaborate with CAD design team on developing print patterns

Partner with pre-production team on finding solutions for costing issues

Participate in all aspects of daily follow up with internal business partner, i.e. email communication and meetings

Responsible for achieving calendar deadlines for all stages of design.

Demonstrated creativity and innovation

Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and In Design

Appropriate brand taste level

Proven leadership with strong product development, design, and art skills

Strong understanding of fabric & trim development

Strong communication, organizational and time management skills

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results oriented environment

Potential domestic or international seasonal for trend research

Preferred skills and experience:

4-10 years of apparel design experience; children’s wear preferred

Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or another creative field with comparable experience
