Interior Designer

Hutton Building Company, Cary, NC, United States

Hutton Building Company | Cary, NC | Full-Time | $65,000 – $90,000 Who We Are

Hutton Building Company is a custom home builder and renovation firm based in Cary, NC, serving the Triangle area. We work with a select group of homeowners on projects that range from ground-up custom builds to thoughtful whole-home renovations. We take on fewer projects intentionally so we can do each one right.

We are a small, high-performing team with a reputation built on close client relationships, attention to craft, and a finished product that reflects the client\'s vision at its best. Our office is in downtown Cary, walkable to parks, restaurants, and coffee. It is a genuinely good place to work.

The Role We are looking for a Senior Interior Designer to be the primary design voice for our clients. This is a client-facing, design-leadership position. You will own the design relationship from the first consultation through construction-ready documents, guiding clients through space planning, material selections, and finish palettes with confidence and a clear point of view.

This is not a support role. We are not looking for someone to draft what other people design. We want someone who builds trust with clients, leads the design process with conviction, and backs it up with real production skills in Revit so the work can actually get built.

What You\'ll Do

Lead design consultations and client meetings from the first conversation through project completion, serving as the primary design point of contact throughout

Develop space plans, material palettes, finish selections, and full design packages tailored to each client\'s vision and budget

Produce construction drawings and design documents in Revit to support the build team

Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and field staff to ensure design intent carries through to execution

Present design concepts clearly and confidently, incorporating client feedback without losing the integrity of the design

Manage multiple active projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and client satisfaction

Source materials, fixtures, and finishes and assist with procurement as needed

What We\'re Looking For

6+ years of interior design experience with a strong portfolio in residential work; custom homes and renovations preferred

Proven ability to lead client relationships independently. You are comfortable running meetings, managing expectations, and making design recommendations with real conviction

Proficiency in Revit is required, with the ability to produce design drawings and construction documents

A refined design eye across space planning, material selection, color, and finish coordination

Organized and able to manage multiple projects and timelines without things falling through the cracks

Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a related field

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Bonus if you have: NCIDQ certification, experience working within a general contracting or design-build firm, familiarity with the Triangle market and local trade relationships, AutoCAD proficiency, or FF&E procurement experience

Competitive salary: $65,000 – $90,000 depending on experience

Health insurance

401(k) with employer match

Paid time off

Why This Role You will have direct ownership over the design experience at a company that takes quality seriously. Your design decisions will not pass through layers of approval before reaching clients. You will work with a team that respects craft, holds high standards, and cares about the finished product. The Triangle residential market is strong, our pipeline is active, and there is real room to grow here.

To Apply Apply directly through LinkedIn. Include your portfolio with your application. We are especially interested in seeing residential projects where you had a leading design role. Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
