Associate Tax Director - State and Local Income Tax

Responsibilities
Manage all activities regarding state and local income tax compliance, state tax research, and tax planning as required.
Manage and review State and City income tax estimates, extensions, and return preparations.
Ensure timely and accurate payments, application/requests for refunds, and return filings.
Review apportionment, nexus, and sourcing analysis.
Compile and review tax‑accounting state calculations for external reporting, per ASC 740.
Research and resolve state and city technical issues.
Support and manage State and local tax audits and inquiries, including identifying and quantifying tax risk.
Compile and review research related to mergers & acquisitions, potential credits and incentives, and overall state footprint planning.
Identify, recommend, and assist in implementation of policy, process, and digitization improvements to streamline processes, improve analysis, and create more valuable output for stakeholders.
Monitor and implement changes that result from legislative updates and changes in state tax laws.
Provide supervision for staff, including training, mentoring, and professional development.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA and / or a Master of Tax strongly preferred.
Ten to twelve (10‑12) years of experience, including 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in public accounting, and/or detailed tax experience in a mid‑ to large‑size corporation.
Detailed understanding of state tax rules and demonstrable experience managing extensive and complex state footprints for large international companies.
Knowledge of ASC 740 Tax Accounting.
Systems experience with Hyperion, CORE, SAP, JDE, CORPTAX (U.S. Compliance) preferred.
Ability to work cross‑functionally within overall Tax and Finance Team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong project management skills.
Highly organized and a strong team player.
Benefits
Salary range: $165,000 – $175,000.
