Job Summary The Sales Manager manages and implements plans to successfully achieve sales of the company's products and services opportunities within the road construction business market segment. The role ensures consistent, profitable growth in sales revenue and drives short‑ and long‑term earnings growth across the segment.
Responsibilities
Identify and develop new client business within the road construction market by pursuing opportunities with strategic targets and cultivating relationships with existing clients.
Perform sales activities on major accounts and manage an assigned geographic sales area to maximize sales revenues and meet corporate objectives.
Identify and evaluate new markets and partnership opportunities through direct prospecting, networking, and participation in industry and professional groups.
Demonstrate the company's mission, vision, value statements, reputation, code of ethics, and standards within the marketplace.
Develop sales strategies to improve market share in all product lines and interpret the short‑ and long‑term effectiveness of those strategies on operating profit growth.
Mentor the sales team in establishing contact and rapport with top decision makers.
Establish programs or seminars for the sales team regarding new account sales, growth, multi‑product sales, profitability, presentation strategies, and business/financial issues on contracts.
Oversee all aspects of the sales process within the road construction market, including developing opportunity‑specific sales strategy through the entire sales process to the final close of the construction project.
Coordinate sales team resources to maintain efficient and improving sales results.
Forecast and communicate annual, quarterly, and monthly revenue streams.
Formulate all sales policies, practices, and procedures.
Provide expert direction for day‑to‑day management of bid packages in the development pipeline.
Provide client‑specific opportunity assessment, market evaluation, financial evaluation, and other marketing needs throughout the proposal preparation and delivery process.
Incorporate customer needs and internal and external feedback into the sales process.
Review sales activities on major accounts and negotiate sales price and discounts in coordination with field operational teams.
Partner with marketing to create effective marketing strategies, including market segmentation, value proposition development, technology positioning, pricing strategy, branding, channel strategy and communications strategy.
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Economics or a related discipline.
Minimum seven years of substantial and broad business experience in Business Development, Sales Management, and/or Account Management, with 3–5 years of demonstrated success in selling and developing new business generating $5 million to $100 million or more in revenue.
Demonstrated experience leading complex sales processes involving multiple team members and decision makers.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills to cultivate and grow lasting business relationships both internally and externally.
Highly collaborative leadership style with the ability to respond quickly and effectively to changing situations.
Capability to coach, mentor, and lead a diverse staff to deliver best‑in‑class services to clients.
Strong business acumen, organizational and planning skills, time‑management, and written/oral communication abilities.
Experience building strategic marketing programs and selling them to local, state, and federal road preservation officials.
