Department Overview The Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society and the Banatao Institute (CITRIS) leverages research strengths across multiple UC campuses and operates within the broader Silicon Valley ecosystem. CITRIS facilitates interdisciplinary work among faculty, students, corporate partners, and international institutions, shaping the future of technology.
Responsibilities Web Manager / Web Content Producer
Manage the CITRIS website ecosystem (www.citris-uc.org) and up to ten subsidiary sites, overseeing site updates, platform integration, and technical upgrades.
Maintain and improve site usability, structure, and presentation to ensure content is accessible, current, and aligned with institutional messaging.
Provide training for content owners using WordPress and establish guidelines and protocols.
Develop and maintain a master content calendar to keep all website information current.
Track and analyze web traffic and metrics to recommend evidence‑based strategies to grow audiences.
Produce and publish web content, coordinate longer‑form editorial features with the communications director and faculty partners.
Edit and refine web content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with CITRIS messaging, translating complex research topics into accessible language.
Support external media visibility by monitoring coverage and identifying promotion opportunities.
Social Media and Digital Communications
Manage CITRIS social media presence across key platforms to build awareness of research, programs, and partnerships.
Develop and implement a coordinated social media strategy aligned with institutional priorities and brand identity.
Produce and curate content highlighting faculty achievements, research initiatives, student innovation, and announcements.
Track and analyze engagement metrics to evaluate reach and effectiveness.
Support distribution of announcements through mailing lists, coordinating messaging across internal and external channels.
Event Communications
Lead development of digital communications for CITRIS events and initiatives, creating and disseminating digital materials aligned with brand standards.
Brand Manager
Maintain and strengthen CITRIS visual identity across digital communications.
Ensure consistency in the application of brand standards across websites, social media, events, and institutional materials.
Other Duties
Provide operational support for communications initiatives across CITRIS programs.
Recruit, supervise, and mentor student assistants supporting communications and digital media projects.
Manage relationships with outside vendors, including design, web development, and other communication service providers.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, design, or a related field, or equivalent training and experience.
Advanced technical skills in digital communications tools, including website CMS, social media platforms, email communications, and digital publishing tools.
Demonstrated ability to maintain and strengthen brand identity across web, social media, print, and events.
Strong writing and editing skills, able to communicate complex research and technical topics to broad audiences.
Basic digital design and user experience skills for creating accessible, visually coherent materials.
Strong project management and organizational skills to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Familiarity with analytics tools for tracking web and social media engagement.
Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
Ability to develop creative communication approaches and solve problems independently.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in an academic, research, or nonprofit communications environment.
Salary & Benefits For information on the comprehensive benefits package offered by the University, visit the University of California's Compensation & Benefits website. The budgeted salary range for this position is $82,800 to $116,300 yearly ($6,900.00 to $9,691.67 monthly). The full salary range for the payroll title (DIGITAL COMM SPEC 3) is $82,800 to $149,800 yearly. This is a 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits. The position is FLSA exempt and paid monthly.
