The Senior Tax Advisor is a key leadership role responsible for directing all facets of the tax function, including compliance, reporting, planning, and strategic guidance. In this position, you will lead complex client engagements or oversee comprehensive corporate tax operations, ensuring technical excellence and delivering high‑value advisory support. You will drive business growth by strengthening client relationships, optimizing tax strategies, and providing expert oversight to a broad team of tax professionals. Strategic Leadership & Management
Provide strategic direction for the tax department or practice area, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing team of tax professionals, including managers, seniors, and staff, overseeing performance management, resource allocation, and talent retention.
Foster a collaborative, growth‑focused environment that supports technical excellence and continuous development.
Technical Expertise & Compliance
Serve as the final reviewer and subject matter expert for highly complex federal, state, local, and international tax filings across corporate, partnership, and individual entities.
Ensure strict compliance with applicable tax laws, GAAP/IFRS standards, and internal control policies.
Stay current on evolving tax legislation and guide the team in applying technical updates accurately.
Develop and execute advanced tax planning strategies that reduce liabilities and improve overall tax efficiency for clients or the organization.
Provide high‑level advisory support on complex transactions, restructurings, regulatory developments, and business initiatives.
Act as a strategic partner to senior leadership or top‑tier clients, delivering insights that inform key decisions.
Audit Management & Controversy
Lead and manage all federal and state tax audits, serving as the primary liaison with tax authorities such as the IRS and state agencies.
Defend tax positions, negotiate resolutions, and guide clients or internal stakeholders through the audit and controversy process.
Business Development (Public Accounting)
Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the tax advisory practice.
Lead proposal development, pitch efforts, and expansion of existing client relationships.
Strengthening the firm’s market presence by demonstrating deep expertise and building trust with prospective and current clients.
Tax Provision Oversight (Corporate)
Oversee the full quarterly and annual income tax provision process in accordance with ASC 740.
Ensure accurate reporting, documentation, and financial statement disclosures related to income taxes.
Collaborate with finance and accounting leadership to support audit requirements and close financial timelines.
What You’ll Bring Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
CPA certification is mandatory for this leadership‑level role.
A Master’s in Taxation (MTax) is strongly preferred.
Experience
8–10+ years of progressive tax experience, including significant time in a supervisory or management role.
Experience within a large public accounting firm or the corporate tax department of a multinational company is highly desirable.
Strong expertise in business tax and accounting across multiple entity types, including S corporations, partnerships, and C corporations.
Technical Skills
Deep, up‑to‑date expertise in tax law, regulations, and reporting requirements.
Strong proficiency with enterprise‑level tax technology platforms such as CCH Axcess, ONESOURCE, SAP Tax, and advanced data analysis tools.
Soft Skills
Leadership & Influence: Exceptional leadership abilities with strong presentation, negotiation, and strategic thinking skills.
