Description Responsible for the operations of a large program or center at the university. Oversees staff, budgets, and projects.

Oversees a large department, program or center.

Manages budget and engages in strategic planning to ensure all goals are met.

Hires and directs the activities of staff.

Resolves personnel issues as they arise.

Engages in budget-planning, grant oversight, and policy development.

Implements new programs and projects and monitors ongoing activities of department or center.

Reviews department policies and processes and implements improvements as needed.

Represents department or center to internal and external constituents.

Performs other job‑related duties as required.

Qualifications MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job‑related 4‑year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in‑depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Experience: Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job‑related experience. Certification/Licensing: None.

Job Duties The Associate Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the campus community’s commitment to advocacy and community. The Associate Director provides oversight for advocacy and essential needs services for the department and support staff.

Student Advocacy and Support

Provide direct advocacy and case management services to students in crisis or experiencing barriers to personal or academic success.

Oversee and develop advocacy and essential needs programs and services for the department, including but not limited to: Providing leadership and support for the Cougar Cupboard staff.

This can include physical labor related to the Cougar Cupboard operations.

Developing new essential needs initiatives that promote retention and graduation of students.

Case management support and process oversight.

Leadership and Department Development

Serve on the leadership team for the Center for Advocacy and Community. Serves as a secondary lead for the department by managing the planning and implementation of CSAC programs, services, and resources. Serves in the absence of the Director.

Train, support, and supervise 2-3 professional staff who provide essential needs and advocacy support to students.

Assist in preparing grants, reports, proposals, manuals, resource materials, and other documentation as required for the program.

Recommend modifications to methods or procedures as required.

Provide leadership to support a positive and collaborative work environment.

Assessment and Evaluation

Provides support and oversight in data collection efforts to ensure department effectiveness in achieving its mission through accurate and timely data collection and analysis.

Oversee the department’s assessment plan and progress card.

Recommend modifications to methods or procedures as required.

Serve as a department storyteller.

Programming Direct and manage the center’s efforts to operationalize community‑building events and initiatives such as the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Juneteenth, cultural celebration/heritage month events and/or others.

Education Create original curriculum, facilitate, and assess educational workshops for students and campus constituents in the areas of advocacy and community‑building.

Relationship Management Form and sustain relationships with community agencies, state and national organizations, sponsors, donors, other colleges and universities, and other programs to share and learn best practices, current trends, and stay up to date on basic needs, advocacy, belonging, and implementation.

Represent Department and/or Division On various campus‑wide committees.

Perform Other Job‑Related Duties As assigned.
