
BUSINESS ANALYST (Police)

The Business Analyst position is essential to strengthening operational readiness, accountability, and resource stewardship within the Surprise Police Department and in support of the Surprise Fire Department. This role is dedicated specifically to logistics, inventory management, and fleet-related systems, ensuring that critical equipment, assets, and vehicles are effectively tracked, maintained, and strategically managed throughout their lifecycle.
As the department’s operational footprint, specialized equipment, and fleet assets continue to grow, the complexity of inventory tracking, asset management, replacement planning, and vendor coordination has increased significantly. A dedicated Business Analyst is necessary to evaluate workflows, standardize processes, improve system utilization, and ensure logistics-related software platforms accurately support operational demands.
This position will collaborate closely with sworn, uniformed, and civilian staff to document business requirements, monitor system performance, and design reporting tools that provide accurate, actionable data regarding equipment status, inventory levels, asset allocation, maintenance cycles, and fleet readiness. The role also strengthens vendor oversight, ensures compliance with City IT and procurement standards, and improves long-term forecasting and budget planning through reliable data analysis.

SUMMARY Incumbent will utilize knowledge of business analysis principles and process requirements to identify, analyze, acquire, implement and support software applications or hardware to enhance department operational effectiveness. Incumbent also should have a thorough understanding of all department functions to perform business process analysis, develop application documentation and work plans, manage vendor relationships, ensuring adherence to enterprise IT standards, policies and procedures. Incumbent supports multiple systems and platforms, including but not limited to, inventory tracking software, asset management tools, reporting systems, and operational databases.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree, and three years of related information technology experience in assigned area; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in the job description. Additional education cannot be substituted for experience.
