Associate Director Procurement - API External Manufacturing

Join an influential healthcare organization to drive external API manufacturing procurement.

The Associate Director of API External Manufacturing will lead procurement and commercial leadership for contracting with third‑party manufacturing organizations, managing an annual spend exceeding $1 billion. The role covers small molecules, peptides, oligonucleotides, large molecules, and antibody drug conjugates from phase III to commercial launch.

What You Will Do

Develop and execute the category strategy for external API manufacturing, including market analysis, supplier identification, evaluation and selection, negotiation of contracts, and management of risk and cost.

Lead the review of requirements, sourcing strategies, supplier due diligence, RFP oversight, contract award, and ongoing contract management.

Conduct on‑site supplier due diligence and negotiate contract terms, using contract knowledge to collaborate with business partners on issues or disputes.

Ensure commercial agreements address supply risks and company liabilities; provide commercial support for supplier relationship management disputes.

Represent the priorities of product teams, supply chain, legal, quality, and compliance in commercial agreements; provide market intelligence on CMO capabilities.

Your Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in procurement, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, chemistry, business, or related field.

At least 5 years of procurement, business development, contract manufacturing, or commercial B2B experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

Experience leading negotiations with internal stakeholders and external partners.

Authorization to work in the United States on a full‑time basis; Lilly does not sponsor work authorization or visas.

What You Should Bring

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with partners and senior leaders.

Demonstrated experience in category management and high‑value contract negotiations.

Self‑motivated and able to work independently in a complex, multi‑organization environment while maintaining compliance with policies.

Experience managing third‑party relationships, supplier selection, contracting, and problem resolution; leadership of cross‑functional teams.

Experience working with global suppliers in commercial, technical, or governance settings.

Strong English communication; analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Commercial acuity, project management, and presentation skills, plus proficiency with Microsoft Office and SAP/Ariba.

Actual compensation will depend on education, experience, skills, and location, with an anticipated salary range of $127,500 – $187,000.
