Summer Recreation Specialist - Tiny Tots

Responsibilities

Develop, supervise, and instruct classes and activities for participants in the summer recreation Tiny Tots program.

Ensure programs are conducted in an orderly fashion and maintain staff and participant safety, including appropriate conduct from participants.

Greet participants and visitors, provide accurate information about activities and sites, and respond to public inquiries via telephone, correspondence, or public meetings.

Provide information regarding recreation programs to school officials, other recreation officials, community service groups, other city departments, and the general public.

Prepare brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, and flyers; coordinate, schedule, and maintain related records and statistics for programs.

Collect program fees, assist in recruiting, organizing, and coordinating volunteer staff, and participate in publicizing and stimulating program participation.

Assist in coordinating, scheduling, and supervising City and Community Learning Center recreation facilities, ensuring proper use by recreation groups.

Work evenings, weekends, tournaments, skill leagues, and other major recreation or city-sponsored events.

Apply first aid, conduct safety and maintenance checks of assigned location, assist with food and beverage preparation, set up tables, booths, and equipment for events.

Perform miscellaneous clerical duties such as answering phones, typing correspondence, running errands, and assisting other City divisions as needed.

Adhere to all city and departmental policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; learn and follow city and departmental practices and safety procedures; perform related work as required.

May occasionally work a varied schedule, including nights and weekends; perform difficult physical labor such as climbing, bending, kneeling, and repetitive movements; lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or GED and a minimum of one year of formal participation or instructional experience in childcare or education for pre‑K children (ages 3‑5) and/or early elementary age children.

Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in assigned community recreation programs.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
