
Distribution Designer III

The Opportunity
The Distribution Designer III is responsible for the creation of electric distribution designs. The Distribution Designer III coordinates with clients, electric customers, and construction crews. Field work includes the collection of existing asset data before design creation and equipment location staking at the time of construction. The Distribution Designer III is capable of working independently and provides training and support for the Distribution Designer I & II roles.
What You’ll Do
Create safe and efficient electric distribution designs using the Company standards
Communicate with engineers for design approval
Understand and follow the client’s standards and changes to their needs
Be proficient in a variety of desktop, mobile, and survey software used for the design process
Have expert level skill in at least one design‑related software
Have experience with complex distribution design situations
Collect field data of existing assets when a more experienced perspective is needed
Stake facilities utilizing survey‑grade technology when required
Create staking sheets
Develop quality checklists and review other designers' work to ensure a quality product is delivered
Review complex city, county, and state permit applications
Share knowledge with the design team, scheduling, clients, crews, and contractors
Actively mentor junior staff
Act as the point of contact for distribution customers, coordinating with clients, engineers, scheduling, right of way, third‑party utilities, and construction crews
Manage multiple projects simultaneously and ensure milestone deadlines are met
Provide continuous updates on jobs to all parties involved with accurate date projections
Maintain strong customer skills
What We Expect From You
At minimum, a two‑year technical degree in Engineering or related construction, GIS, or equivalent project management experience
Preferred 5+ years of relevant experience in a Distribution Design or Distribution Construction role
Proficiency and working knowledge of AutoCAD, ESRI ArcGIS, NISC Mapwise, Smallworld, Trimble Access, O‑Calc, PLSCADD, or other distribution design software and tools. Expert level of at least one design‑related software
Complex distribution design project experience
Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities
Demonstrate excellent verbal/written communication, time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Ability to work well within a team
Takes ownership of the quality of work and coaches others to produce quality work
Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement
Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving standards
Must be authorized to work permanently in the U.S.
