Digital Graphic Designer Target Hiring Range:

$74,367 - $82,000

Job Overview The Senate Sergeant at Arms (SAA) is seeking a talented Digital Graphic Designer for the Printing, Graphics, and Direct Mail’s (PGDM) graphic design team. In this role, you will shape visual experiences across the United States Senate by creating innovative digital media, dynamic interactive content, and visually compelling print publications. You will collaborate with a team of designers to elevate internal and external communications, develop accessible and inclusive materials, and modernize legacy documents.

Key Accountabilities / Essential Job Duties

Coordinate and manage creation of diverse digital media projects including social media ads, interactive PDFs, email designs, animated GIFs, and fillable forms.

Create e-pubilications with interactive elements such as maps, video, hyperlinks, scrolling frames, page buttons, pop-ups.

Ensure digital publishing meets accessibility best practices and WCAG 2.0 guidelines; perform user accessibility testing.

Develop UI/UX for web and mobile document services and applications.

Design and produce a variety of print projects, handling graphic production and assets that adapt to responsive design systems.

Serve as a backup to the section lead in absence.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications Required Education:

High School Diploma or GED.

Required Work Experience:

At least two to three years of graphic design experience.

Required Special Skills / Knowledge:

Ability to conduct accessibility testing using assistive technologies such as screen readers, magnifiers, voice recognition.

In-depth knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG, ARIA, Section 508 and European Accessibility Act.

Experience with assistive technology and accessibility testing tools.

Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Dreamweaver).

Advanced knowledge of printing and graphics design principles, composition, typesetting, publication layouts.

Knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript and accessibility regulations.

Strong communication skills to build relationships with Senate staff and resolve customer problems.

Ability to meet strict deadlines.

Availability for after-hours or weekend work and potential deployment to alternate sites during emergencies.

Desired Qualifications

Proficiency in Dreamweaver, HTML, ARIA, and CSS.

Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and a proven track record.

Demonstrated expertise in producing a wide range of print and digital media from concept to execution.

Strong collaboration skills to ensure exceptional user experiences.

Extensive knowledge of Section 508 compliance standards.

Thorough understanding of WCAG 2.2 and application in modern design workflows.

Proficient in accessibility testing tools such as WAVE, JAWS, NVDA, MadeToTag.

Bachelor’s degree in graphic or web design preferred.

Working Conditions

Position requires onsite presence during Senate sessions, including inclement weather, holidays, weekends, and overnight sessions.

Ability to remain stationary at a computer and occasionally move boxes or equipment under 50 lbs.

Requires in-person or virtual presence during meetings with customers and staff.

Position is considered excepted during government furloughs.
