
Assistant Real Estate Counsel (Chicago)

Our client, a growing real estate organization, is seeking an Assistant Real Estate Counsel to support its commercial portfolio, with a primary focus on leasing matters. This role partners closely with leasing, asset management, and operations teams to handle lease negotiations, documentation, and a variety of real estate-related legal matters.
Key Responsibilities: Draft, review, and negotiate commercial leases, including new deals, renewals, expansions, and amendments Partner with internal teams to structure lease terms and prepare supporting documentation Interpret lease provisions and advise business teams on administration and enforcement Support lease-related disputes, including tenant defaults and landlord remedies, coordinating with outside counsel as needed Maintain and update standard lease templates and forms Provide day-to-day legal guidance to property and asset management teams Review and negotiate vendor and service agreements Assist with easements, operating agreements, and other property-related documents Review title materials and support property-level legal matters Support acquisitions and dispositions, including due diligence and contract review Assist with internal reporting, legal summaries, and documentation Collaborate with and manage outside counsel on various matters Contribute to internal legal processes, training, and team support Handle special projects and other legal matters as assigned
Qualifications: J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing (any state) Ability to obtain in-house counsel registration in Illinois if not already admitted 5+ years of experience in real estate law (law firm or combination of law firm and in-house) Strong experience drafting and negotiating commercial leases and related agreements Solid understanding of real estate and contract law
Compensation and Benefits: $140,000 - $152,000 (based on experience) Annual bonus (based on company performance) Medical, Dental, Vision.
