Assistant Sales Manager
The Assistant Sales Manager partners with the Division Sales Manager to strategically manage assigned product categories to drive sales growth, gross profit dollars, and market share versus prior year. This role develops and executes pricing, promotion, assortment, and merchandising strategies based on performance analysis, market trends, and consumer insights to meet or exceed projected business results.
Key responsibilities include supporting total store and division-level customer service initiatives, developing and maintaining annual category business plans, meeting or exceeding assigned sales, gross profit, and contribution targets, creating and managing detailed pricing strategies, developing, executing, and analyzing promotional calendars, designing planograms and recommending product adjacencies, determining optimal product assortment, maintaining scorecards to track sales, maximizing vendor funding and investment, developing category-level sales and profit forecasts, conducting detailed post-promotional analysis, planning advertisements and in-store displays, acting as the primary divisional contact for vendors, maintaining regular vendor engagement, partnering closely with procurement, coordinating and communicating merchandising plans, participating in vendor and internal planning meetings, supporting and implementing corporate merchandising and operational initiatives, visiting stores to evaluate execution and merchandising results, providing direct supervision to assigned office support staff, and performing additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Scope includes sales performance results and gross profit dollar contribution.
Knowledge, skills, and experience required include a bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience, prior experience in store operations, category management, merchandising, or a related functional area, strong understanding of store operations, merchandising principles, and category management, financial and analytical skills, proven ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make sound, results-driven decisions, strong planning, organization, and prioritization skills, effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, working knowledge of category business planning, procurement, logistics, and inventory management, and proficiency with standard business software, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and internet-based tools.
Travel requirements include travel as required based on geographic responsibility.
Physical environment includes work primarily performed in a temperature-controlled office environment, regular use of computers, phones, and standard office equipment, and prolonged periods of sitting, with occasional standing, bending, reaching, or light movement as needed.
