The Director of Robot Design
VinMotion, California, MO, United States
Director of Robot Design
leads the end-to-end design and engineering of robotic hardware systems, owning the mechanical, electrical, embedded system design across multiple robot platforms. This role sets the technical direction, architecture, and engineering standards to deliver high-performance, reliable, and scalable hardware platform from concept to mass production. Key Responsibilities
Define and own the robot system architecture, with strong focus on:
Mechanical structure and mechanisms Electrical power and embedded control systems
Lead multidisciplinary teams across:
Mechanical system Actuation system Electrical & Embedded system
Drive technical decision-making on performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability Oversee structural, thermal, and durability analysis (FEA, fatigue, vibration) Establish engineering standards, review designs, and ensure design quality Collaborate with Product, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams on roadmap and industrialization Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related fields More than 5 years in robotics or complex electromechanical systems 3+ years in technical leadership or engineering management roles Proven experience delivering robotic products to production scale Strong system-level understanding of mechanical, motor, electrical, and embedded systems
