Job Overview
As a member of the Georgetown University Medical Center’s Advancement team, the Director of Stewardship and Strategic Communications will work alongside senior GUMC Advancement leadership to build a culture of gratitude. The role ensures donors are informed, engaged, and consistently acknowledged and recognized for significant gifts to Georgetown University, collaborating with the Office of Advancement’s centralized Communications, Stewardship, and Alumni Engagement teams to develop communication materials and impact reporting for donors, internal stakeholders, and volunteer leaders.
Responsibilities
Lead stewardship initiatives for the Medical Center’s most significant donors and partners.
Design, implement, and manage meaningful acknowledgments, stewardship, and engagement activities that express gratitude and demonstrate impact.
Coordinate visits and tailored communications with key leadership, including the Executive Vice President of GUMC and Vice President for GUMC Advancement.
Act as the GUMC liaison to secure data and content from academic units, departments, and centers to prepare financial and impact reports for donors.
Develop a thoughtful communications strategy that informs donors of the University’s philanthropic priorities and delivers a tailored, white‑glove experience.
Oversee the stewardship program’s plan for gift acknowledgment processes and tailored correspondence from senior leadership.
Work Interactions
Collaborate with university‑wide colleagues and external constituents, reporting to the Managing Director, GUMC Operations and Strategic Engagement.
Engage partners across the University, including the Office of Advancement and the Offices of the Provost and President.
Represent GUMC Advancement in interactions with the university’s most generous donors, handling confidential information with discretion.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Minimum of 5–7 years of overall professional experience, with at least 3 years in a relevant role within higher education or a non‑profit environment.
Superior organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and proven ability to work independently.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including writing, editing, and proofreading.
Diplomatic skills essential.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, consistently meeting all deadlines.
Ability to effectively manage projects that are both data‑driven and relationship‑driven.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite and Google Workspace.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with philanthropic donors, specifically within the academic medical center space.
Familiarity with fundraising databases or the SalesForce platform.
Knowledge of Georgetown University.
Work Mode Designation
This position has been designated as Hybrid. Note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed to meet evolving University needs.
Pay Range
$66,783.00 – $126,720.23
