Biostatistician I - Department of Biostatistics

The Department of Biostatistics Clinical Trials Data Management Center is seeking a Biostatistician I. This position, under the direction of the team leaders, will conduct analyses, communicate findings to collaborators, and work with a team of biostatisticians engaged in multi-center clinical research. The Biostatistics team is responsible for developing statistical analysis plans, randomization schemes, statistical reports and analyses, overseeing data sharing activities, and providing statistical support for publications. The team works closely with all Center teams to design data collection forms using data standards and to produce FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) datasets. This role may manage multiple projects simultaneously and work with clinicians from diverse specialties.

Key Areas of Responsibilities and Specific Job Tasks

Assists in advising investigators on alternative statistical methods.

Assists with preparation of statistical sections for complex studies.

Reports key findings to team leaders and assists with communicating findings to study investigators.

Assists with writing reports of statistical analyses and preparing written materials for funding agencies and others.

Statistical Analysis

Prepares and reviews data for validity and accuracy.

Creates, tests, and validates programs that generate data summaries and listings for reports using statistical packages.

Performs sample size calculations with existing software.

Suggests appropriate analysis techniques and validates statistical and graphical analyses.

Assesses validity of data analytic assumptions for present data.

Organizes, documents, maintains, and archives statistical analysis programs, data sets, and results.

Under guidance, prepares data sets for public use and reporting to funding agencies following guidelines.

Ensures data fit models required by statistical methods; may analyze and report on methods and trends in data analysis techniques.

Presentation/Publication Assistance

Assists in preparation of statistical analysis sections for research presentations and publications.

Human Resources/Leadership

May provide supervision over project-specific tasks.

Qualifications Required

Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, data science, or related field (or equivalent education and experience).

Proficient in SAS programming with at least 1 year of experience in data step programming and knowledge of SAS procedures for statistical analyses and data presentations.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated understanding of statistical analysis procedures and interpretation of results.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Knowledge of relational database methods to manipulate and merge large datasets for analysis.

Highly Desired

Experience and background in clinical trials research through graduate coursework or project experience.

Experience writing statistical analysis plans, reports, protocols, or methods sections.

Development of reports, tables, and listings in a professional setting.

Use of SAS to navigate relational databases.

Proficiency in macros in statistical software (e.g., SAS or R).

Experience with R programming, including data import, management, and analysis packages.

Desired

Experience performing sample size and power calculations for study planning.

Experience with advanced modeling using research data.

Coursework or experience in missing data techniques.

Coursework or experience in randomization procedures and sequence generation.
