The role at a glance: NBBJ is seeking a talented
Senior Interior Designer
to lend Their expertise and contribute towards the continued growth and success of the New York Corporate/Commercial practice. The Senior Interior Designer is a client and public‑facing design leader who is visible in the New York market and trusted to shape and deliver projects at various scales from workplace environments to building repositioning.
This individual operates with both vision and execution bringing a strong point of view, guiding design direction, and elevating outcomes across projects. They are equally effective leading and contributing within a diverse team, fostering collaboration while ensuring rigor and design excellence throughout the process.
In your new role, you will:
Exhibit significant experience in leading design process for multiple scales and complexities of projects, from very large buildings to small scale renovations, from design concept through documentation and CA; working as solo designer or directing a team to develop an integrated and comprehensive design narrative
Contribute towards strategy and vision for proposals and interviews with prospective clients to increase win rate
Advance the Corporate Interiors practice’s reputation through conference presentations, journal articles, social media communications and industry engagement
Bring a strong desire to educate, mentor and push design dialogue within the New York office
Be an excellent key seller of design ideas and a strong client relationship leader
Be able to eloquently speak with and present to clients
Be adept at the integration of strategic programming and design
Appreciate diversity in people, ideas and style
Have the desire to have a positive impact on others

What you will need to succeed:
Must be an expert in interior design (emphasis on workplace) with a deep understanding of the New York market
15+ years as a Lead Designer with a proven record of building high performing teams
Architectural or NCIDQ licensure (ideal)
LEED accreditation or within 18 months of hire (ideal)
Proven ability to build business and deliver complex interiors projects, at all scales
Skilled at viewing the world through the client’s lens
A great communicator and storyteller with an engaging and energetic personality
At least 1 large corporate interiors project built in the New York area or north‑eastern United States
Strong conceptual design and schematic design skills
Must possess a keen interest in challenging the norms of the corporate interiors market, and an ability to provide forward‑thinking concepts with great clarity
Strong verbal and graphic communication skills, effective client relationship skills and a talent for working with diverse teams of architects and design professionals
Ability to work in Revit, with 3D modeling skills
Ability to lead design process and client interactions
Demonstrated knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Strong relationships and connections with corporate interiors clients across the Eastern United States is required (New York focus)
Results‑oriented: ability to independently analyze, synthesize information and take action
Ability to thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment
The annual base pay range for this role is anticipated to be between $135,000‑140,000. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on a number of factors, including their skills, qualifications and experience.
