Responsibilities
Training: Responsible for onboarding, training, and continuing education of new and current employees. Allocate time monthly for training to ensure staff are comfortable with day-to-day tasks.
Employee Time Management: Schedule work within budgetary limits, maintain a daily-tracked system, justify variances in writing, and enforce weekend schedules.
Daily Scheduling and Supervision of Work: Decide and post additional assignments; maintain an accurate daily task and time-tracking form; hire and fire subordinate staff; conduct performance evaluations, including for new hires.
Timekeeping: Monitor and approve timecards; ensure breaks and proper card usage.
Supervise Field Irrigation Maintenance: Lead irrigation technician duties; diagnose and address irrigation problems across 1,000+ heads, control boxes, and valves; maintain the river pump.
Care of Maintenance Facilities: Keep facilities clean and debris-free; perform weekly visual checks for safety and organization.
Care of Chemical Buildings: Maintain labeled containers, proper storage, spill containment, and regular checks; coordinate with Environmental Safety; schedule biannual reviews.
Integrated Pest Management: Scout for pests on 150 acres with emphasis on greens, tees, and fairways; consider environmental, budgetary, regulatory, and customer impact factors.
Pesticide Application & Chemical Management: Apply products per label and policies; maintain spray equipment; follow IPM and safety protocols; maintain records and inventory; ensure proper storage and handling.
Facilities Security and Safety: Manage golf course bathrooms, rain shelters, maintenance offices, and shop bathrooms; ensure cleanliness and report variances; obtain quotes for non-emergency major repairs.
Underground Storage Tank (fuel) Management: Obtain and maintain operator certifications; inspect and record compliance; ensure signage and safety equipment are present.
Golf Course Improvements and Irrigation: Lead improvement projects with cost/time justifications; use irrigation software to operate and optimize water use; comply with water restrictions and BMP guidelines; maintain monthly usage logs.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in bentgrass greens management; crew supervision; aerification; knowledge of golf course equipment and chemical application.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Turfgrass management; delegation; keeping up-to-date with golf course maintenance processes.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; knowledge of UGA Golf Course Best Management Practices Guidelines.
Proficiency with irrigation software.
Physical Demands
Heavy lifting; adverse weather conditions; standing for long periods; driving as needed.
