Qualifications
Minimum of a master's degree from an accredited institution required, preferably in educational leadership, sports administration, or a related discipline.
Valid Michigan administrator certificate and valid teaching certificate required.
Five years of relevant teaching experience with a successful record of athletic coaching required.
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required, or the ability to obtain immediately upon hire.
Thorough knowledge of school rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior.
Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks.
Three years of professional experience in athletic administration or a related leadership role preferred.
Training or certification in athletic administration, such as the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA) or Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) preferred.
Experience in facility and event management, scheduling, and game operations preferred.
Knowledge of injury prevention, athletic training practices, and emergency response protocols preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of relevant technology applications preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in OAA Standing Committees
Participate in MHSAA committees when appropriate
Brand management (social media, website, others)
Ensure safety standards are met for MHSAA
Oversee training of staff for the Emergency Action Plan and CPR
Plan activities for vertical alignment with elementary and middle schools
Manage internal and external accounts
Manage program software
Provide leadership and oversight for all interscholastic athletic programs, ensuring alignment with district policies, educational goals, and state athletic association regulations.
Recruit, supervise, and evaluate coaches and athletic staff; provide guidance, professional development, and support to promote high-quality coaching and postivie sporting conduct.
Develop, manage, and monitor the athletic budget, including purchasing equipment, uniforms, and supplies in a fiscally responsible manner.
Coordinate scheduling of practices, games, tournaments, officials, transportation, and facility use for all athletic programs.
Ensure compliance with eligibility requirements, safety standards, Title IX, and all state and league regulations governing athletics.
Oversee maintenance and safe operation of athletic facilities, fields, and equipment; collaborate with maintenance staff and administration on facility improvements and repairs.
Plan and supervise athletic events, including game operations, event staffing, crowd management, and emergency response procedures.
Promote a positive and inclusive athletic environment that supports student‑athlete well‑being, academic achievement, and fair play.
Serve as the primary liaison between the school, district office, athletic leagues, community partners, and families regarding athletic matters.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, coaches, and staff.
Successful experience interacting with a diverse population of students, families, and staff preferred.
Work Mode The work for this position requires a fully onsite presence.
Working Conditions The Athletic Director may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays as needed. Additional working conditions are described in the TMU collective bargaining agreement.
Work Schedule Full Time, 12 Month Work Calendar
Salary Placement on the Team Management Union (TMU) Salary Schedule is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary range for Athletic Director is $107,925 - $131,488.
