Job Description
The Distribution Designer supports the Power Distribution Engineering team by designing overhead and underground electric distribution systems and contributing to a wide range of power infrastructure projects. This role combines field data collection, utility design, and the use of specialized design software to help ensure safe, reliable, and efficient power delivery.
Responsibilities
Design overhead and underground electric distribution systems in alignment with established engineering standards and safety codes.
Develop and update distribution design drawings and models using tools such as AutoCAD, Katapult, or SPIDAcalc.
Incorporate knowledge of power poles, lines, and related equipment into accurate and constructible utility designs.
Collect, review, and interpret field data and site information to support power distribution and power delivery projects.
Apply knowledge of electric utility or telecommunications infrastructure to create practical and efficient distribution layouts.
Ensure designs comply with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and other applicable standards and guidelines.
Collaborate with engineers and other team members to refine designs and resolve design-related issues.
Prepare and maintain design documentation and records to support project execution and future reference.
Contribute to multiple concurrent projects and adapt to changing priorities as new distribution projects arise.
Participate in continuous improvement of design processes, standards, and tools to enhance quality and efficiency.
Essential Skills
Experience designing overhead and underground electric distribution systems.
Knowledge of electric utility or telecommunications systems and infrastructure.
Proficiency with distribution design tools such as AutoCAD, Katapult, or SPIDAcalc.
Knowledge of power poles, power lines, and related distribution equipment.
Ability to perform accurate data collection and interpret field information for power distribution and power delivery projects.
Understanding of utility design principles and practices.
Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and its application to distribution design.
Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate design documentation.
Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and project teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous hands‑on experience using Katapult or AutoCAD in a utility or telecommunications design environment.
Experience working on power distribution, power delivery, or utility design projects.
Ability to grow into more advanced design and engineering responsibilities over time.
Willingness to learn new tools such as SPIDAcalc and adopt evolving design standards and processes.
Work Environment This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with time spent in the office from Monday through Thursday and the option to work from home on Fridays. The work environment centers on supporting a busy Power Distribution Engineering team with a strong pipeline of upcoming projects, providing significant opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carrollton, GA.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 – $24.00 per hour.
