Sr Dir, Portfolio Architect – Corporate Technology
The Portfolio Architect for Corporate Technology will lead the architectural strategy and design for TIAA’s Corporate Technology ecosystem, encompassing Law and Policy, Risk & Compliance, Finance, Audit, Corporate Services, and People Team technology platforms. This role will drive the holistic development and integration of technology capabilities across the corporate portfolio, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture principles while enabling business transformation and operational excellence.
TIAA is on a journey to modernize and transform Business and Technical Capabilities into next generation capabilities leveraging cloud and advanced techniques. The Portfolio Architect will serve as a key partner to Corporate Technology stakeholders, working closely with the Enterprise Architecture function, business leaders, and cross‑functional teams to deliver integrated solutions that support TIAA’s corporate functions.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Lead the development and evolution of the Corporate Technology architecture roadmap, encompassing Law and Policy, Risk & Compliance, Finance, Audit, Corporate Services and People Team technology ecosystems.
Define and maintain capability maps for Corporate Technology functions, identifying current state, target state, and transformation pathways.
Create reference architectures and design patterns that promote consistency, reusability, and scalability across the corporate portfolio.
Partner with Enterprise Architecture team to ensure Corporate Technology architectures align with or contribute to enterprise‑wide architectural principles, patterns, and company standards.
Collaborate with business stakeholders and delivery organizations across Legal, Risk & Compliance, Finance, and People teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications and architectural solutions.
Lead business process modeling and value stream analysis to understand current state processes across Corporate Technology functions, identifying optimization opportunities and supporting process improvement initiatives.
Create models for mapping Corporate Technology functions as compositions of platform capabilities, supporting TIAA’s evolution toward a product‑centric operating model.
Define principles for Build/Buy decisions and technology selection criteria specific to Corporate Technology needs.
Drive architectural governance processes to ensure solutions align with enterprise standards, strategic objectives and good architecture practices.
Influence without authority to drive architectural best practices and standards adoption across diverse stakeholder groups.
Develop and maintain business capability models and capability maturity assessments for Corporate Technology functions, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement while supporting capability‑based planning and investment decisions.
Establish and maintain architectural documentation, standards, and guidelines for Corporate Technology.
Support project delivery by providing architectural guidance, oversight and governance throughout the development lifecycle.
Represent the Corporate Functions Technology team in the Technical Architecture Governance and the AI Center of Excellence (COE) processes.

Required Skills
8+ years of progressive experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, or related technical leadership roles.
Experience in financial services, with preference for experience in Legal, Risk & Compliance, Finance, or HR technology domains.
Experience with cloud technologies, modern architecture patterns, and/or enterprise integration approaches.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or relevant field.
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, or related technical leadership roles.
Proven track record of leading architectural initiatives in complex, regulated environments.
Experience with enterprise architecture tenants including Technical Debt Management, Application Lifecycle Management, Products Portfolio Management.
Ability to influence without authority and drive consensus across diverse stakeholder groups in fast‑paced evolving environments.
Experience with Domain Driven Design, Data Mesh, AI, Gen AI, Agentic, and capability‑driven architecture methodologies.
Excellent communication and presentation skills with experience in executive stakeholder management.
Experience working in individual contributor roles while providing technical leadership across multiple teams.
