Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director - Group Captives

Zurich is currently hiring an Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director – Group Captives for our Schaumburg HQ! While it is preferred that this position works a hybrid schedule of three days per week at our Schaumburg, IL office, we are open to remote candidates within the U.S. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents.

Core Responsibilities

Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities for captives.

Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.

Qualify accounts to match the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.

Help with the daily administrative requests that come in on policy maintenance.

Manage broker and captive consultant interactions.

Serve as a technical resource to less tenured team members.

Negotiate terms & conditions and close deals.

Participate in sales team meetings related to assigned brokers or territory.

Measure exposure, analyze risk and pricing on new business.

Willingness to travel 20% including international travel roughly twice a year.

Executive Underwriter – Group Captives Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, or

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area, or

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 3 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, or

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 8 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.

Experience working in a team environment.

AVP, Underwriting Director – Group Captives Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, or

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area, or

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 5 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, or

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 12 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.Experience working in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree.

Construction underwriting experience.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Microsoft Office experience.

Established underwriting/insurance exposure.

Intermediate insurance level understanding.

Evidence of effective negotiation skills.

Experience handling difficult conversations.

Compensation The combined salary range for this position is $100,000 – $215,000. The proposed salary range for the Executive Underwriter is $100,000 – $165,000, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%. The proposed salary range for the AVP, Underwriting Director is $130,000 – $215,000, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%.
