The Raytheon Subsystem Engineering and Photonics group is actively seeking a Senior RF Mechanical Engineer to join our group in Columbia, MD. The Subsystem Engineering and Photonics Group is a hands‑on, multi‑disciplinary engineering team that works to design, develop, and fabricate the next generation of RF and photonic communications systems. The Sr. RF Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for supporting our design and testing efforts by working with the engineering team to develop functional prototype solutions in a CAD environment and then fabricating hardware to realize those solutions. The individual will also be responsible for creating fixturing to support R&D lab testing needs and troubleshooting of machinery and test equipment.
What You Will Do
Serve as a technical resource to the organization
Collaborate in a multi‑disciplinary team setting to solve complex engineering problems
Create 3D CAD models and engineering drawings for RF and Photonic products designs
Develop prototype hardware designs and coordinate fabrication
Perform hands‑on integration and test support for prototype hardware
Hold design and drawing reviews with peers and subject matter experts
Support lab operations by designing, fabricating, and troubleshooting test fixturing and equipment
Supplier management for built to print or build to specification RF and Photonic products
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
Minimum 2 years of engineering related experience in the area of mechanical design
Experience in solid modeling tools such as CREO
Experience in rapid prototyping and hardware integration
Qualifications We Prefer
Experience working with optical fiber splicers
Experience potting RF or Photonic systems
Experience working collaboratively in a multi‑discipline team.
Experience supporting lab operations.
Self‑motivated problem solver with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
What We Offer The salary range for this role is 95,500 USD – 181,700 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
