QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Master's degree required in Adult Education or educational administration/leadership.
2. New Jersey School Administrator Certificate (preferred).
3. New Jersey Principal Certificate.
4. Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in school or District-level administration as Principal.
5. Minimum of four (4) years successful experience in teaching Adult Education.
6. Knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards for curriculum, assessment and instruction.
7. Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods.
8. Ability to create a District-level professional development program.
9. Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
10. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
11. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status as defined in N.J.A.C.6A:9-9 Instructional certificates.
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES I. MANAGEMENT AND COACHING OF INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF
1. Observes, coaches, and evaluates Teachers, Department Chairs, and District Supervisors, as well as provides ongoing professional development for targeted improvement in identified growth areas.
2. Provides constructive feedback to Principals, Vice Principals, District Supervisors, and Department Chairs on the improvement of student achievement and effective implementation of the Adult Education curricular programs.
3. Monitors all Teach NJ Educator Effectiveness activities (IPDP/CAP), observations, and evaluations of District Level Supervisors and Teachers of Adult Education.
4. Validates evaluation ratings of District Level Supervisors and Teachers of Adult Education.
5. Assumes the orientation and mentor responsibilities of all novice and District-level Supervisors, as well as monitors the orientation and mentorship of Teachers and Teacher Coaches.
6. Leverages Teacher Coaches and Academic Interventionists to reach maximum implementation of District approved curricular guides and intervention strategies by providing monthly and quarterly ongoing professional development opportunities.
7. Synthesizes all Adult Education achievement quarterly reports and provides a comprehensive review and presentation at various forums throughout the school year.
II. CURRICULUM, INSTRUCTION, AND ASSESSMENT
1. Serves as the District's leader and expert in the area of Adult Education.
2. Authors, updates, and furnishes rigorous College and Career standards for Adult Education curriculum guides, bridge manuals if applicable, and technological resources to the District.
3. Leads the District's textbook adoption and curriculum committee and process ensuring all curricular resources and supplements are fully vetted; meeting College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education and the diverse needs of all students.
4. Develops a comprehensive strategy to guarantee an accurate inventory and timely distribution of all curricular resources.
5. Develops all Adult Education diagnostics, interim assessments, District assessments, mid‑term and final exams.
6. Collaborates with the Director of Special Education to ensure curriculum guides, units of study, resources, and assessments are tailored for all learners.
7. Collaborates with all District Directors to ensure curriculum guides, units of study, resources, and assessments are aligned to State standards and result in interdisciplinary opportunities.
III. ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP
1. Establishes and executes organizational systems and strategies to monitor District Supervisors, Department Chairs, Teacher Coaches, and District goals.
2. Develops and monitors strategies for high‑level collaboration among faculty and staff.
3. Communicates effectively and maintains a positive disposition in all circumstances to ensure an outcome that promotes student academic achievement, staff professional development, and District-wide success.
4. Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services.
IV. ADULT EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT PLAN
1. Engages collaboratively in the school‑wide and District‑wide Adult Education effort to build a shared vision and supportive culture, identify common goals, and monitor and evaluate progress toward those goals.
2. Participates actively as an Adult Education team member to improve teaching and learning in the school and District.
3. Participates actively as part of school team, giving feedback on Adult Education practice, examining student work, analyzing data from multiple sources, making decisions to improve student learning, and being accountable for each student learning in the area of Adult Education.
4. Reports results of improvement plan effectiveness to school Principals as well as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services.
5. Helps design and participates in school and/or District professional development activities to improve Adult Education teachings and learning.
6. Helps design and participates in parent and family workshops to enhance Adult Education learning at home and school.
7. Engages in professional learning to enhance his/her knowledge and skill in Adult Education, contributes to the knowledge and skills of Supervisors, Department Chairpersons, Teacher Coaches, as well as Teachers, and work collaboratively to advance professional practice in Adult Education.
8. Develops and sustains strategic partnerships with external institutions, community-based organizations, higher education entities, and local businesses to expand adult education services beyond Newark Public Schools sites, ensuring increased access, enrollment, and program offerings for residents across the community.

SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD, AND UNION AFFILIATION
Salary Range: $156,000 to $171,000
Employment Period: Twelve (12) Months
