Position Summary
Synergy BioResearch is seeking a Director of Business Development to lead client acquisition and revenue generation within the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors.
This role will focus on building relationships with pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology startups, CROs, and academic research groups requiring biospecimen and translational research services. The individual will develop a pipeline of opportunities, conduct scientific discovery discussions with prospective clients, and work with internal scientific and operational teams to structure client programs.
In addition to client acquisition, the Business Development Director will also support the expansion of Synergy BioResearch’s clinical research site and biospecimen sourcing network by identifying and facilitating strategic relationships with clinical investigators, hospitals, and research sites capable of supporting biospecimen collection programs.
This is a high-impact role within a rapidly growing life sciences services company where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the commercial growth of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Client Acquisition and Revenue Generation
Identify and develop relationships with biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and academic research organizations requiring biospecimen and translational research services
Generate new revenue opportunities through targeted outreach, networking, industry conferences, and existing professional relationships
Manage the full business development cycle including lead generation, scientific discussions, proposal development, and contract negotiation
Close service agreements related to biospecimen collection programs, sample processing, biobanking, and translational research services
Maintain an organized sales pipeline using CRM tools and track client engagement activities and revenue forecasts
Strategic Market Development
Identify emerging biotechnology companies and research programs requiring biospecimen and biomarker support services
Develop strategic partnerships with biotechnology companies, CROs, and academic research institutions
Represent Synergy BioResearch at industry conferences and scientific meetings to build relationships with potential clients
Clinical Network Development
Assist in identifying and cultivating relationships with clinical research sites, hospitals, and physician investigators capable of supporting biospecimen collection programs
Facilitate introductions and partnerships between Synergy BioResearch and clinical partners that can provide access to patient populations and biospecimen cohorts
Collaborate with the clinical operations team to expand Synergy’s biospecimen sourcing network across therapeutic areas and geographic regions
Identify opportunities for prospective cohort studies and longitudinal biospecimen collection programs through relationships with clinicians and research institutions
Support the development of strategic site partnerships that enable reliable sourcing of high-quality biospecimens for pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients
Note: The Business Development Director will facilitate introductions and strategic partnerships while the clinical operations team manages regulatory, contracting, and operational aspects of site partnerships.
Required Experience
Candidates should possess 5–8 years of experience in business development, sales, or account management within the life sciences industry.
Relevant backgrounds may include:
Contract Research Organizations (CROs)
Biospecimen or biobanking services
Bioanalytical laboratory services
Biomarker or translational research services
Genomics or multi-omics service providers
Life sciences research tools or laboratory equipment sales
Experience interacting with biotechnology or pharmaceutical research teams is strongly preferred.
Industry Knowledge
Candidates should demonstrate familiarity with:
Pharmaceutical research and development workflows
Translational medicine and biomarker research
Clinical trial support services
Biospecimen collection and processing
Precision medicine and biomarker discovery
A graduate degree in life sciences (PhD, MS, or MD) is advantageous but not required if the candidate possesses relevant industry experience.

Successful candidates will typically possess relationships with individuals such as:

Existing relationships within biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies are strongly preferred.
Compensation Structure
Compensation for this role is structured to reward revenue generation and business growth.
$70,000 – $100,000 depending on experience
Commission
10% – 15% of revenue generated from closed contracts
On-Target Earnings (OTE)
$120,000 – $200,000+ annually, depending on revenue performance
Performance Bonuses
Milestone bonuses may be awarded for early revenue generation, for example:
$10,000 bonus upon closing first $250K in revenue
$15,000 bonus upon closing first $500K in revenue
$25,000 bonus upon closing first $1M in revenue
Equity Participation

Performance will be evaluated based on:
Pipeline development and lead generation
Number of qualified discovery meetings conducted
Proposals delivered to potential clients
Revenue generated from new client engagements
Strategic partnerships established with research organizations and clinical sites
Initial success metrics may include generating $500K to $1M in new service revenue within the first 12–18 months.
