
Senior Loan Counselor

General Job Summary
The Senior Loan Counselor is responsible for collecting on 30+ days delinquent loans. Must be able to counsel borrowers on available loss mitigation options and maintain contact with borrowers to minimize defaults and foreclosure.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
Contact delinquent customers to collect and reestablish a payment pattern
Negotiate or renegotiate payment schedules to avoid foreclosure
Approve and calculate short‑term repayment plans
Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements for the collections process
Work with internal/external staff and investor contacts to maximize potential for collection
Work directly with investor contacts to complete requested tasks
Take part in investor conference calls
Become familiar with loss mitigation practices and how they apply to default operations
Assist borrowers with completing financial packages
Advise borrowers of potential consequence of foreclosure or bankruptcy
Maintain servicing system with appropriate default holds and codes
Other Job Functions
Attend all training sessions for department
All other duties as assigned by management
Requirements Education, Training and Work Experience
High school diploma (or equivalent) required
Previous experience in mortgage loan servicing desired
Previous experience in collections and/or default servicing desired
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Maintain & foster positive relationships with customers and business partners
Complete all assigned training in a timely manner
Provide professional communication in both oral & written expression
Excellent organizational, time management & analytical skills
Able to communicate effectively
High degree of accuracy
Ability to manage confidential information
Ability to diffuse and provide business‑oriented solutions for escalated issues/calls
Effective problem‑solving skills
High degree of dependability
Working Environment Primary working environment is within an indoor, climate‑controlled office space. Employees may be subject to fluorescent lighting, dust, and other normal indoor allergens. Employees will work in close proximity with coworkers and occasionally independently in quiet environments.
Physical Requirements
Able to lift up to 20 pounds
Extended periods of sitting (at computer desk)
May be exposed to extended periods of interaction with others (listening, talking, taking notes)
Complete repetitive tasks (including operation of computer mouse/keyboard)
