
Prepress Specialist (Packaging and Commercial Print)

JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly skilled Prepress Specialist to support a fast-paced commercial print and packaging environment. This role is responsible for preparing, reviewing, troubleshooting, and optimizing customer-supplied artwork for production across multiple print platforms, including flexo packaging, labels, digital, offset, and wide format.
The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to manage high SKU volumes while ensuring files meet all production and quality standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare, review, and adjust customer-supplied artwork to meet print production specifications
Preflight and troubleshoot files for issues including:
Missing fonts and links
Improper file setup
Resolution and transparency issues
Build and manage DLR templates and dielines, ensuring accurate structure, bleed, and panel alignment
Set up files for flexo, offset, digital, and wide format printing
Perform color correction and color management, ensuring consistency across proofing and production devices
Generate and manage digital and contract proofs (EPSON or equivalent) and apply client revisions
Process multi-version and high-SKU jobs efficiently while maintaining quality
Support variable data workflows (VDP) when required
Collaborate with CSRs, sales, designers, and production teams to resolve prepress and production issues
Ensure all files meet internal standards and customer specifications before release to production
Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices to continuously improve workflows.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
2–5+ years of experience in a commercial print or packaging prepress environment
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) on both Mac and PC platforms
Strong understanding of digital file formats including PDF, TIFF, and EPS across operating systems
Advanced color management skills, including ICC profiles and cross-device consistency
Comprehensive understanding of print production workflows, including prepress, press, and post-press processes
Proven ability to prepare and optimize files for print production with high accuracy
Strong troubleshooting skills related to file preparation and print output issues
Knowledge of printing-related systems and concepts including:
PRODUCTION-SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE (HIGHLY PREFERRED)
Experience with dielines, DLR templates, and packaging structures
Understanding of flexographic printing, including white ink and print limitations
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
Familiarity with Heidelberg Prinect, HP Production Pro, Fiery, or similar workflows
Experience handling high SKU volume and versioned jobs
