The Claims Adjuster / Representative is responsible for managing and resolving complex casualty and liability claims for a large, multi state organization. They independently investigate losses, evaluate liability and damages, and develop strategies to bring claims to timely, fair, and cost effective resolution. They serve as a key liaison with claimants, attorneys, insurers, internal leadership, and external vendors. Success in this role requires the ability to manage a high volume caseload while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and exceptional customer service. This role requires strong judgment, negotiation skills, and working knowledge of insurance coverage, tort law, and claims best practices, and may include on call and after hours responsibilities. Responsibilities Investigate casualty and liability claims involving bodily injury, property damage, and related losses. Independently conduct thorough investigations using interviews, recorded statements, documentation review, data analysis, and evidence preservation. Evaluate coverage, liability, damages, and exposure in accordance with policy language, statutory requirements, and applicable case law. Communicate with claimants, witnesses, attorneys, law enforcement, medical providers, and other third parties to gather information and assess damages and injuries. Establish, document, and maintain accurate claim reserves in a timely manner. Develop and execute claim resolution strategies, including negotiation and settlement of claims when appropriate. Decline, deny, or reject claims in accordance with coverage determinations, applicable laws, and internal policies and procedures. Prepare clear, concise, and timely reports, correspondence, and claim documentation. Maintain complete and accurate claim files, records, spreadsheets, and reports within claims management systems. Identify subrogation and salvage opportunities and coordinate recovery efforts. Coordinate with leadership to determine the need for independent adjusters, appraisers, and other vendors; monitor performance and control costs. Collaborate closely with outside adjusters, appraisers, and related service providers as needed. Attend hearings, mediations, pre trial conferences, trials, and other legal proceedings as required. Provide regular claim status updates to insurers, excess insurers, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders. Participate in after hours and on call claim response rotations as assigned. All other duties as assigned to meet evolving business needs. Qualifications Education: Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university required. Certification/Licensure: Current adjuster license (or the ability to obtain and maintain adjuster licenses) in multiple jurisdictions, as required. Experience: 2+ years of casualty or liability claims handling experience. Working knowledge of property and casualty insurance principles, tort law, liability doctrines, and standard claims practices. Working knowledge of basic medical terminology and injury evaluation. Strong negotiation, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and professionally. Ability to manage a high volume caseload in a fast paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated discretion and confidentiality in handling and protecting sensitive information. Technical: Proficient with common office technologies, including Windows PCs, Microsoft O365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and web conferencing (Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc.). Environment: Comfort commuting to/from and working in a 100% on site setting (listed in this posting), with occasional travel for related meetings/events.
